seriously - unless you know VERY well where you're going, this could be the longest 4hrs of your life

Go to the bike shop in Burley and ask them for the map of the 21 mile loop that goes past the Canadian war memorial. Cracking bridleway descent just after you come back past the memorial.

Nothing 'off-piste', marked trails only, and they are pretty hot on this in my experience. However, I only ever go there in summer.

"advanced" is a term they use when they describe s disease that is beyond treatment.

I wonder what type of car the OP "drives"?

A 10 year old VW polo, I didn't mention "advanced".

Pootle standard stuff is fine, I just wanted a nice long ride in what is supposed to be a nice area.

Thanks for the tip on the bike shop, will go in and see what they say

Ignore the new forest haters, if you are just after a 4hr xc loop in nice scenery then NF is fine for that.

Forget off piste at the moment as everywhere us like a swamp.

Did 30 miles on Sun and fireroads are still fine. But some of the fords are totally impassable, so check route carefully.

As suggested Burley is a good starting point. There are plenty of fireroad routes from there, that will keep you occupied for a few hours.
