My DMR Vaults have been pretty good for the last few years but now need replacing
Anything better worth trying?
I prefer burgtec penthouse having both, folk moan about the mk4 being too close to crank, mk5 addresses this I believe.
Recently moved from SPD's to flats and picked up a pair of Syntace Titans Number Nines.
A bit expensive but uber-light and very well put together.
Nice and thin with plenty of pin positions.
Nukeproof horizon pro are great pedals. On a par if not grippier than the vaults I had before but don’t develop the vault rattle after just a few months. Plus if they’re good enough for Sam Hill.....
I used to own Vaults but got sick of a £100 pedal needing so much servicing. Now I ride Chromag Scarab and I don't have to service them every couple of ride's
It seems every pedal i wanted was out of stock so thought id try something new. Got some Burgtec Mk4 Composites for like £30. I cannot comment on their longevity but the grip, feel, shape of them is top notch. I might be a composite convert
Hazzatrazza , I was considering the Burgtecs or the Nukeproof Electrons.
Where do you make to get the burgtecs for £30?
I’m in the market for some flats but can only find them for £40.
I haven’t tried vaults or bergtech or horizons but my favourite pedals so far are Superstar Nano Evo’s. I’ve got them on both bikes now and so far so good. Few years in I think on one pair and it’s not needed any servicing so far and no rattles.
My main comparisons have been older DMR V8’s, Wellgo MG1’s and Carbon Cycle Exotics.
I've got to wonder what the deal is with that Enduro Mag test. The same publication but in e-bike form said the Hopes weren't that grippy ( https://ebike-mtb.com/en/flat-pedal-group-test/ Trev Worsey still doing the testing like most of the Enduro tests), which is something you hear from a lot of folk (myself included, mine are on the pub bike now).
FWIW, I've just got some Deity Deftraps. Seem very good so far, and only £40 as they're the plastic version of the T-Mac

Jolly Green, it was a few weeks back now so maybe the 'sale' is over. I would happily get em for £40 too if that helps. Scavange around for some discount codes.

They're pretty much out of stock and SS told me they wont be back in for another 6-8 weeks
They (Boardmans) look terrible. The outside pins are probably the most important yet they put in shorter ones, and hidden them in a lower part of the pedal. You're foot will be sitting on the raised middle bit instead so barely in contact with them. Given they aren't any cheaper I don't know why you'd bother?
Recently put Raceface Chester's on both our bikes. Really impressive pedal. Super grip and light weight. Seem plenty sturdy enough for pedal strikes, also.
I recently picked up some RaceFace Atlas pedals from the Classifieds & am mightily impressed with them so far - so much grip & very light, can't comment on the life of the bearings yet!
Had vaults and Horizons and liked both, just bought Deity Deftraps which are amazing and £40 if you can find them.
I wanted some T-Macs but the local shops that have them wouldn't let me have a little test ride around the car park, which is understandable but it's a lot to cough up for pedals.
I bought the Deftraps to get a feel for the T-Macs and now I have mixed feelings about the T-Macs. How good must they be/worth it over the Deftraps
i've got some Chromag Daggas.
They're the best pedals i've used by a country mile, the platform is very comfortable, and they grip a lot better than anything i've used previously, and i've used a few (including vaults). they are holding up well too - seem tough.
they'd also be cheaper if they were made out of gold.

I have been using Vaults for the last 8 years but after the last time I went to replace the bushes (again!) the end cap on one rounded out the Allen key head, I replaced that set with Burgtec MK4 boost composite’s and liked them so much I swapped the other pair on my Geometron for MK5’s.
Pedals are all pretty similar these days, reality is if you know what shape you like, then there's loads of them that'll do the job.
In the past year i've used Funn Pythons, RF Atlas, DMR Vaults, Saints and Stamp pedals across my bikes, bar the saints they were all good to do the job with, if i had to pick a favourite it would be the Funn Pythons, but that's just on looks, it's how they feel with the shoe that makes them, and as above, bar the saints, every one of the ones i've tried work.
I've got Shimano XT pedals, they are a bit higher profile than some of the newer designs but grippy and its a Shimano pedal so it will probably outlive me.
I've also got Nukeproof Electron plastic pedals on another bike. for £30ish they are brilliant, light and grippy, and I wouldn't give two shits if I smashed them off a rock. No where near as "nice" as Burgtec, Vaults or even the alloy Nukeproof but hey its a pedal!
Another vote for Nukeproof Horizons here!

i loved how my vaults felt but they were pretty fragile bearing wise . Got some burgtecs mk4 and apart from a few scuffs from pedal strikes they are as smooth as the day i bought them . I also have some of the composite burgtecs on the hardtail and for the money they are excellent .

I’ve got an 8 year old pair of Vaults on my bike. Couple of pins missing but never needed to service them in all that time. I have creaky knees and find the Vaults have just the right amount of float to stop them hurting.
Bored of rattly Vaults I went to Burgetc Penthouse Mk4s. Decent, but a bit smaller platform than Valuts. Similar price as well.
Saw Kona Wah Wah 2 Composites for sale and took a punt.
Wider still than the Vaults, with great grip and half the price of the others.
I've never considered Burgtec. They're the only pedal I've ever seen snap clean off. I've been with two separate people when their axles have snapped.
One was going uphill but the other had quite a big crash when it let go on a descent.
I'm going back a few years but it put me off. Was it a common issue or a bad batch?
Are the Hope's that bad?
Ive got a set on the way, have been running DMR V12's for the last 10 years but fancied something better/less maintenance
Did look at the Vaults but not keen on the shape/look and i do like to move my foot around on the pedal so don't want something too grippy

Nope, they just aren't that good compared to the other £100 competition and much of the £30-40 competition too. They'll look nice and last forever though. If you dont like having aalll the grip then they might be for you (and taking out the middle pins does help a bit with grip and feel too)
I am looking for Flat Pedals at the moment and although still to decide Sam Hill Nukeproof pedals seem to get a lot of good reviews.
have vault's, mk4 penthouse and one up resin. The vaults & one up's are significantly more grippy than the burgteck. on up resins are quite a large platform. I'm using the vaults on my pump track bike.
can't be vaults for feel, I'm ok greasing them every few months.

I don't understand what you mean by that. What float do you get from a flat pedal ?
Some flats grip, some GGRRRIIIIPPPPP. So some feel like you can make small adjustments, others you pretty much have to remove your foot from the pedal to move at all
I was on a set of HT for years that i really liked, but when they went crunchy it was impossible to service them because they sell 8000 different kits for all their zillion pedals and it needed special tools etc. Got fed up and tried burgtec. Didn't like them even with the wider axle as I found my feet flying off them at inopportune moments so they've been relegated to the pub bike. Got vaults on both bikes now and very happy with them in terms of shape and grip.

This is why I've had to avoid Burgtec, I'm always quite far out on my pedals so the stubby axle is a no go for me
Vault shape is amazing, best feeling pedal I have ridden.
Vault reliability is terrible. I have found aftermarket bushing sellers on Ebay which seem to last significantly better that DMRs.
Nukeproof Horizons are bomb proof. I just use them now & the Vaults live in the spares box.
I thought vaults were reckoned to be among the most grippy pedals out there. I had vaults but now use £30 horizons which are lighter , just as grippy , don't get rattly bearings after a few rides . I really can't understand why anyone would spend more .
Ehrob do you think the cromags are worth the money. Ive been eyeing them up myself.

Ah, I think what's happened there, is your creaky knees have drowned out the bush rattle, and the 'float' (??!?) Is the play on the bearings.
4 different pairs/generations of v12/V8/Vault over the years, and the bearings on all of them have been utter dogshite.
I've got 2 pairs of Nanos and love them, going to try some Deity next if I can find some.
Deity can be ordered by any shop with a ZyroFisher account. Oddly, I got my Deftraps from Helensburgh Cycles (proper grumpy wee place) who had several pairs in stock
I have Hope pedals and find them fantastic. Two years now with no play and very grippy. The pedals take a lot of abuse as I am 115kg and mostly ride Dunkeld and the Golfie. Like all Hope products I have they just work.

Leave the bearings unserviced for 8 years and you get plenty 🙂
