Sorting out a new build on a Soul, will be XT, and thinking 2 x 10 as has pretty much same lowest gear at 26 x 36 vs. 22 x 34

Thoughts ?

Many thanks

My hard tail is a triple, and I hardly ever use the larger ring so can easily do without it. My new softail is a 2x10 and has all the range I need, so I personally don't need a triple for the riding I do in Derbyshire and the Peaks, so plenty of hills to climb and gravity does a good job of getting you to the bottom again. I guess if you do alot on the flat or road then the larger chainring would come in handy, but for the amount I do I'm happy to push the lower gear, go slower, take in the countryside and conserve energy for the next big climb.

From a complexity and weight point of view there is no real-world benefit with a double, it just boils down to whether or not you need the range.
