Hi STW,

Im going to upgrade my drive train as what I'm running right now is rather shoddy, although it's done its job. I was thinking of getting the following components:

Derailleur:

What's the benefits of long or medium cages? What are people's thoughts on this? Any recommendations would be great!

Cassette:

Shifter:

Chain:

Do these all look compatible?
Any advice, experience etc. would be appreciated!!

Dru

Just put a full new drivetrain on a mate's bike and Merlin were unbeatable.

I'd go KMC chain instead of Shimano

medium cage for double+bash, long for triple

Not sure of the difference between the M771 and M772 rear mechs, but I'm happy with my M772 - it is lighter and to my mind looks better than the M771. It will work fine with the XT shifters you mention.

As above, if using a double ring setup, you are better with the GS (medium) rather than SGS (long) version, as it will flap around less. You only need the SGS for triple setups.

With Merlin VIP pricing you are a few quid cheaper for the mech etc. I think you get VIP pricing just by signing up for the newsletter.
