Morning all,
I have a Karate Monkey with Avid BB7 cable discs that i use as my main mountain bike and commuter. The brakes work fine so long as they are set correctly (every couple of weeks) and the cables are in reasonable order. I have been looking at upgrades as it is maint time and can see the following options:
1. Replace the cables as required with "normal" cables. Adjust when needed, dry eyes and stop complaining.
2. Replace cables with Gore RideOn. Adjust when needed, dry eyes and stop complaining.
3. Buy some basic Deore or SLX hydraulics (will i need to replace the rotors?)
Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?
Cheers!
Chris
Hydro discs, no contest.
Keep the bb7's
BB7's I had on a road bike were pretty much fit and forget apart from the odd time I removed the front wheel and they always seemed to rub after until adjusted - every 2 weeks sounds odd. Might be worth trying Gore cables but I've only used them on gears (well worth it for that), if you can stretch to decent hydraulic brakes though that's got to be the best option.
