Do you mean brakes? In which case if you're looking at anything that isn't Deore, SLX or XT then, yes, you are wasting your time. And your money.

I was thinking brakes > breaks > cracks too, but juan's English is better than that!

A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Amal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his Mom. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal. Her husband responds, "But they're twins. If you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal."

Reminds me of the fireman who married a Spanish lady.

They had two sons, José and Hose B

Well, it takes Juan to know Juan!

No 'c' - just cranks/crankset.

To answer your question, unless you want to spend a lot more, or want single ring from the off then XT is hard to beat!

XT cranks are a very sensible choice. In my opinion they are very close to breaking the "light cheap strong pick two" rule.
