Hi

Just wondered what the tolerances of the cotic frames are like.
Ive just bought a soul and after uilding up ive tried two different wheels in it and the dishing was out by about 5 mm on both.

I think I would get away with it but im a bit disappointed with it to be honest.

If you're not happy with it get in touch with Cotic.
My Giant was like that- it didn't have a noticeable effect but it bugged me that it shouldn't have been like that from new. The shop and Giant agreed and replaced the frame under warranty.

Yes its a bit disappointing though, there's a lot of hype surrounding this frame and the when you receive it it has left the factory with a quality control issue.

Possibly. But don't jump to conclusions before it's resolved (especially not on a public forum that they read!) That's a pretty big leap you've made there tbh.

I've had 3 cotics and all were perfectly straight and true, so speak to them and see what comes of it. If it's not right, they'll sort it.

Are you 100% the wheel is in the drop out properly.

Sounds silly but I thought my hummer frame was dodgy for months but the rear wheel wasn't quite seated properly..almost had to hammer it in!

mountain mutant +1

My old soul had a tiny dribble of paint in the dropout. Couple of seconds with a file and everything was fine.

On my orange cotic, I found the paint/laquer was a bit thick round the dropout, so I had to remove some with a stanley knife to get the wheel to fit properly. This may be the problem?

but im a bit disappointed with it

As has been said, talk to Cotic. One of the great things about buying from Cotic is their great service ime.

Shouldn't you have gotten in contact with cy/cotic (or wherever you got it from first) to see what they said, rather than asking on a public forum?
A quick phone call would be all that it would of taken.
Jesus what did people do before the internet ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜†

MountainMutant/DTaylforth/Huws - were you using a Hope rear hub by any chance?

I had the same as the above guys but on my 456, the hope hubed wheel wouldn't even go in the dropout. And also the same with a pair of Magura Wotans and a hope hub.

As above my orange Soul had too much paint in the drop out and the wheel did not sit properly at first. Easily sorted and fine since.

Had same issue on old version frame. 2.4 mountain kings rubbed the driveside stay. Spoke with cy and he gave me the dims at certain points along the chainstay and it was found to be out. Exchanged frame with no problem and ended up with the lateset version. Very happy with the service and comunications. Please speak to them and don't get drawn in to the kangaroo court.

Yeh, a hope bulb I think it was.

I cleaned my Cotic this afternoon, gonna build that new frame up tomorrow. I think its going to be a singlespeed as I dont have any spare outer cables and the bikeshops are closed tomorrow.

Hope hub rear axles always seem slightly larger diameter.
I've received feedback from people before about suggesting that a Taiwanese frame is right, whilst a UK hub "might be wrong" along similar lines to posting on the Daily Mail website that Diana was a slag, so, please take this in the spirit it's intended.
A file will possibly fix it. Whether you file the frame or axle is up to you.
Unless it is actually out of whack. Which is rare but anything is possible.

From what we've seen in the shop, this Hope hub thing is mainly just down to tolerances. The Hope axles seem to be right on the mark and the dropouts were made very tight on tolerance. Once painted, the clearance can be lost meaning the hub axle won't fit.

Some very light cleaning up of the dropout usually sorts the issue very quickly.

As for the OP, I think he needs to contact his retailer or Cotic rather than just bad mouthing on a very well google ranked website.

Why wouldn't you file the hub axle?

Just practicalities really. Far easier to take a flat file to the relatively soft paint on the dropout than trying to get a nice round axle smaller

I think if you were selling second hand people are more likely to accept a frame where paint had to be removed from a dropout than a hub with file marks on the axles?

It may be functionally irrelevant either way but cosmetically it probably matters?

I'd much rather file the frame rather than an axle, which would then be out on any other bike you fitted it too...
