I've been running Code RSC's for the last four plus years and they've been really good requiring nothing other than pads and bleeding after changing frames. They looking a bit battered now and are starting to suffer from sticky pistons etc so I've been looking at new brakes and have narrowed it down to either the Code RSC or Magura MT7's, the latter being a bit cheaper even allowing for new rotors etc.

The Codes seem to review really well and I've been happy with my Guides but they're a lot of money. What are people's experiences of the two?

Code Rs here, I think they're great brakes, loads of power and modulation and a nice lever feel. I can only imagine the RSCs improve on this. If you are using SRAM gears and / or a Reverb the mounting compatibility is also a winner.

Yeah, my bike runs SRAM drivetrain and a Reverb.

You can get matchmaker adapters for the MT7's as well though.

Not on your list, but have a look at Formula Cura's. I've swapped over from Hope's, bit more power, lever shape is really good, doddle to setup, very impressed with them, to the point of having all three bikes swapped over.

assume typo on the first line you've been running GUIDE rsc for the last 4 years?

well if so, just get the code rsc, ive had them nigh on 3 years i think and other than frame swaps, needed nothing doing

they are by far the most consistent, powerful and reliable brakes ive ever had, im not even going to consider anything when the time comes to swap, they really have been faultless

and ive owned guides before too, and can assure you the codes are much much more powerful than than the guides too

The Cura 4's were kind of the list and are a tad cheaper than the other two even once rotors and mixmaster adapters are included.

Oh, and this. Also more reliable and not prone to fade on Alpine Descents (I've killed Guides and had fade issues with XTs in the Alps).

Yes, I meant Guides. They've been really good to be honest so I thought about the G2's but the bigger meatier options seem like a worthwhile option.

Magura brakes are good currently changed to Shagura, Magura callipers with shimano levers. I don’t have but mates have & like Hayes Dominion A4 brakes very good & underrated. I think all the new Hayes stuff is good I have the new Manitou Mezzer forks which are very good performing forks

Tried everything in the last few years and have always come back to the Code RSC's. Mega power with consistent lever feel. What more could you want imo.

Fitted Magura MT Trail last week, bloody good brakes! All my mates on ebikes have MT7s, all rave about them.

I find the 2 pots more than powerful enough! And that's riding steep off piste trails, wrekin, eastridge, etc.

If you decide on G2 then wiggle have them for £220 a pair at the moment for the RSC.

There’s a set waiting to go on my wife’s bike.

Only opened them up quickly but look a bit chunkier than my Guides (the lever and calliper) so guess they’ll be a bit more powerful.

Thanks to all who have commented. I’ve ordered Codes in the end.

The Magura’s I found for sensible money weren’t shipped with olives and reports of stuff like finicky bleeding put me off in the end. Plus I’m lazy so won’t need to change mounts or rotors with the Codes!

Fitted my Codes today; big step up in performance from my Guides which I’ve never found wanting. Genuinely very impressed with them.

They’re messy burgers to bleed / shorten hoses though. Luckily the front hose was the right length, the rear brake pissed fluid everywhere when the hose was removed.
