Hi All,

I am looking for some advice.

I have a Specialized Stumpy Expert (2007 model) which I have had from new. Despite the old gal being 10 years old, I have been modding it heavily over the last few years. In fact the only thing that is original is probably the frame. My question is this:

I love the bike it rides great but should I look to replace it? Would it really make a difference to buy a newer 2017 frame. Will it be that much lighter / faster / stronger? iS it really going to benefit me or should I just keep the stumpy and upgrade?

I am now at the cross roads and don't know which way to turn.

Any advice would be great

Cheers
Toby

Need vs want, if you've got the money any fancy a new bike why not? things have changed a bit in 10 years.

if you like the stumpy keep it, if you want a new bike get a budget, drawn up shortlist, demo as many bikes as you can and maybe you'll get a bike that you'll love even more than your Stumpy.

Demo a new one, that will tell you all you need to know.

Which is to buy a new one.

Get a new one. My brother took his stumpy of similar age to the alps this week and compared to everyone else's bike it basically feels horrible. Some of the comments were much worse. It is in perfect nick too.

there will be a big difference. As someone else has said, try demoing a couple of bikes, with 650b and 29 inch wheels to see if you think its worthwhile.

Depends what kind of bike your looking for..

I recently changed an 2010 On One Scandal (26) for a 2016 Trek Superfly (29) and it was definitely worth it.
On the other hand I have a 2006 Allez thats getting new wheels and Groupset for £600 and will be as good as anything new up to £2k ish.
