So, last season shelled out for some lovely assos bibs on the road bike and the improvement in comfort was amazing. Looking for the same type of thing for off-road, the assos are far to fragile to use off road.

I normally use gore, but it would seem I'm in between medium and large after trying a few pairs, so they are ruled out.

I would like mountain bike ones designed to last a bit of abuse rather than roadie ones, in the sales would be ideal too. Don't mind spending a reasonable amount for quality and comfort.

I was ûnder the impression gore did, road and mtb are different positions, well for me. The main thing is durability as mtb ones will have a lot tougher time and need to better with abrasion.

Surely manufactures do them?

See, I thought this was a sensible question!

29er specific bibs, to match my 29er specific saddle.

No to baggies.

Endura MT500 for properly rugged mtb specific bibs.

Never had an issue using the same shorts on both, i do understand where your coming from, but for me at least the position isn't different enough to need the pad to be in a different place.

As for toughness, never really found it a problem, only comment, white bits on shorts on the road are ok, off road, just stick to plain black.

Pearl izumi do a bib undershort, that clips to their baggies. I assume you are asking because you find baggies slip down when worn over lycra bibshorts.

shame they don't sell their baggies without liners to give an option.

Dirtbaggies bib+shorts has been shown in some magazines, no idea how good they are:

For warmer temps Mavic Stratos shorts (sans bibs though) are very nice under baggies. Without baggies very entertaining look is guaranteed.

Never had an issue using the same shorts on both,

Like to have separate ones for road and mtb. The mtb ones quickly go to look pretty shabby after a few close encounters with some gorse bushes. Like my road ones to look smart too. Also get better quality ones for road as fit and pad quality tends to be more important than on the mtb where you are in and out the saddle and moving about a lot more than on the road.

There is a 29er specific bib, a 27.5 specific bib, and a 26 specific bib - which is basically a nappy.
