Just trying to get my bearings on this having never done HtN (I might nip over today and see what the route's like, if it's easy enough to follow - who knows, I might even enter - for a giggle) Is that Tarmac stretch at the beginning somewhere along the road down to Phillips Park Hall? Where is the turn off onto the first bit of single track?

Ta very much.

course conditions look perfect - can we have the race now? Or book this weather for Feb??

The weather in Feb has always been kind to us. The Manchester monsoons are always in July.

The World just wasn’t ready for “Tall Screen”. In 5 years time they will be showing the original cut at Cornerhouse and people will rub their beards in awe.

However, as advertising it was gold! The break even target was hit after 3 weeks and we are now only a few away from sell out - a double 3 Peaks winner signed up yesterday!. Pretty soon we’ll have to hit the “Increased Capacity Contingency" button.

Sign up now. It’ll all be gone soon!

I'm in already and this will be my last ride before I leave for Oz! So I'll be riding with the for sale sign on my bike! Are mud x good for the track? looks like it'll cut up badly after a few hundred riders. (I want some new tires anyway) Also what sort of distance is a lap?

A point regarding the video, when you're running up the steps I almost barfed up my breakfast!

Ps the world will never be ready for tall screen.

Keep the video's coming!

2hottie.

Mud X will be spot on, assuming the going is 'soft'. it could be frozen solid.
There's at least half of the course that's hardpack or gravel.

It's about 3 - 3.5 miles per lap.

But, of course, the one thing the vid doesn't show, is the legend that is...

We will enhance the MTFU Hill experience this time around in a Brazilian carnival style.

I think people need to be more sparing with pictures of the Field of Despair and MTFU Hill. It can upset us more sensitive types.

I'm scared!

...and with explosives.

That photo doesn't do MTFU hill justice. I could hardly stand up whilst spray painting the motivational message, such is the steepness.

This is a better indication.

[IMG] [/IMG]

TBH I don't know why we bother with a course at all. I'm sure that we could get away with charging you perverts twenty quid, tying you up in a muddy trench and kicking you to the sound of brass band music whilst somebody throws crap over your bikes and steals your brake pads.

It actually uses less energy ( Edit : and can be quicker) to "run/crawl" across the field and up that hill than it does riding it.

It makes me chuckle when people see the pics and video and say it looks easy. Ride round it for 2 hours and if you feel the same come back and ask "why they aren't riding". 🙂

Oh... Perhaps this would be a good time to mention that the 2012 course has a new hill in addition to MTFU. It is a bit longer, a bit steeper and a lot muddier.

After struggling for several seconds to come up with a name for it we settled on "Bastard". Hope you like it. 😉

I rode the field bit every lap (then took my place in the stumbling queue to grovel up MTFU hill like every other fool who'd entered). My average speed, according to the computer whenever I looked at it, was around 3.5mph

Flat out.

Can't wait to do it all again 😀

Who's been gifted the brake pad franchise this year? I hear it's fought over like oil drilling rights in the middle east? Have either of you pair been taking 'favours'?

We've contacted a pad manufacturer for sponsorship now you come to mention it. Not heard 'owt from them yet.

A well known supplier of bike cleaing products will be donating prizes though. Thoughtful or what?

Still having trouble signing up.

Could you save me a place and I can pay you by bank transfer?

I'm desperate to get muddy again

Cheers

Wait until you see "Bastard".

An estate agent would describe it as being an imposing woodland feature at the end of a demanding gravel climb.

It's a bastard.

yes. Details to follow when I get around to it.
basically turn up with your kids and their bikes and they'll have the chance to kick each other's arses.

there will also be a proper, full-on, FAST, youth (13, 14, 15 year olds) race. 9 am start, shorter course, 40 mins.

Awesome.

...and a smaller kids 10 minute race to be held in the main field whilst the adult race is going on. British Cycling are looking after the kids so that we don't break them.

Free for the little ones. The youths will have to pay (not full price) as we have to cover extra medical and insurance costs, but there will be prizes.

Could you update my entry to show my club details please. I don't know if I forgot to put it down or not but the team prize is going to make things very interesting this year 😀

some of the team details didn't survive my shonky export from the entry thingy. You details are showing on your entry Mark, so all's well.

I just somehow managed to cock it up. A bit.
