I don’t think the use of an Ebike has taken anything away from Chris’s vids. It just means he rides up steeper stuff & hops about like a baby bunny on an even heavier bike. It’s all relevant.
Love to see him compete in a MC trial but on that ^^
I don't know but I get the feeling he's one of those weirdos who likes riding up more than down!
He's an astonishing rider eh? Frankly I don't care if it's on a normal mountain bike, an e-bike or a trike, I'd still watch.him ride. The level of skill, commitment and judgement is mind blowing.
On that latest edit, him traversing that very loose, very steep shale slope, with the back wheel regularly breaking away towards a big cliff...made my toes curl. I wouldn't have walked that, let alone ridden it!
The ash/spoil climb looks like the slag heaps, you slaaaaaaag! just up from Cilfynydd, you can see them to the right as your driving towards BPW from Cardiff, just before the Abercynon turn (I think) there's a climbing spot up there where we used to walk the dog, looks very familiar.
Those boulders look intense at the end, keep the momentum while picking a line and not falling 5-6 foot either side, not for me!
He is truly superb - that video with Steve Jones (who is no dummy, imho) was really, really excellent.
I’d be like SJ - just totally broken....
Meh. Bloke on [ albeit restricted] bike with a motor rides up steep stuff.

Yeah, I know - you do this sort of stuff just to warm up.
I wish that I could....
Just for context, I'd have liked to see him attempt some of that stuff on his normal bike too, to demonstrate the difference the ebike made.
Hmm, that was a great advert for eBikes. There's no way he's getting up those waterfalls without an eBike and some of the short accelerations he does before big moves are definitely assisted by the motor (and wouldn't be possible without it). Quite cool to see eBike tech being used to advance the sport rather than just make it more accessible to people who don't want to pedal.
The MacAskill videos I've seen are just him being himself, but nerfed considerably by the big heavy bike.
I saw Chris ride up a wet rockface like that last video at a trials event once but it was about a quarter of the size, and even that was extremely impressive to witness. Straight up it, no dabs.
This is just a level above. Wow.
Always get the feeling that Danny Macaskill a lot is gymnastics that just happens to take place on a bike, where Akrigg's video seem more like actual mountain biking... just on steroids
Good was that.
He said in an interview on the Downtime Podcast that he had to learn a completely new way of riding due the the massive weight and the fact that if you mis-time the amount of pedalling you suddenly lose the motor assist (as you go too fast) and he saw it as a new challenge. He still gets out on his other bikes as well.
Pretty impressive.
He still gets out on his other bikes as well.
But he doesn't get paid to make videos about those ones...

Yep Toni Bou is shit too...
The bike does it all for him.
Love Chris Akrigg, one of my favourite riders. I don't think him riding an eBike in this one took anything away from how rad it was. Fantastic stuff!
Chis has always been an amazing rider, however I feel like he’s always (rather unfairly) played second-fiddle - initially to the likes of Martin Hawes, Ashton and Hans Ray, and subsequently to Danny Mac and more latterly Fabio Wibmer. His riding’s never been packaged up in such an MTV friendly format but there’s never been any doubt in my mind of the power and accuracy of his riding, and his skills on the bike are much more pure than those riders that I’ve mentioned.
"I don’t think the use of an Ebike has taken anything away from Chris’s vids"
Yeahh. No.
I'm the exact opposite. I love Akrigg - his total package of skill, balls and sheer power makes him fascinating.
The ebike takes the "wow" out of his power. He may as well just get a trials bike and show us his skills on that because I'm not half as bothered about what he can get up assisted.
He's got amazing skills - but for me a big part of Akrigg was the sheer power the lad could generate on his own whilst still being able to use those skills.
Ebikes completely kill a key component of what I love about watching his riding.
You can watch any of his non-assisted videos - but single-speed fun:
