My bike currently has a 10 speed 12-30 tooth cassette, if I change this to say 11-28 or any other variant will the cassette still run smoothly? It would just be the gear ratios that would be affected?
Don't want to change the ratio only to find out it does work for any reason...

If you change the chain at the same time then should be perfectly fine unless the chainrings are worn.
