I'm not sure which to choose either.

I'm thinking of a 2.35 high roller 62a upfront for more grip over my 2.2 spesh captain.

nevegals are a good all round tyre. I run with one on the back and it stays on all year - all conditions.

The 62a isn't that grippy.

Supertacky High Rollers on the other hand are great on the front in a range of conditions but work best in corners when really cranking it over. They can be a bit sketchy at those inbetween angles. Minion is supposed to be better in that regard.

Nevegals never really floated my boat in the same way as high rollers. My favourite all rounder is the Maxxis ADvantage.

If you like having sidewalls that are thicker than paper, highroller.

... if you like tyres that wear out after half a dozen rides...

Pfffrt. I've had my 60as for 18 months, they're just wearing in nicely. Of course the supertacks wear, but I wouldn't do owt but uplifts on them becuase they're like dragging a concrete block behind you.

The DTC Nevegals last very well and I've never had an issue with the side walls. Maybe I'm lucky.

I love it, everyone is different. Why can't there be just one top dog.

I now think im going to go for maxxis Minion single ply 2.35 , maybe 60a.

Assuming single ply is lighter than dual.

Yup. generally 60a single ply = general trail duties. 40a dual ply = DH sled bikes only.

Minion DHF 60a on front, highroller 60a rear. 'old' series maxxis like the highroller and minion come up smaller in 2.35 than new series ones, but they're a good size without being absurd for trail duties. Great combo.

OK decision made. High rollers it is, I'll just have to crank the bike over a bit more, which wouldn't be a bad thing!

Very similiar tyres tbh. Nevegal feels better in a straight line, braking in rocks etc, to me but otherwise they do the same job the same way. Get the ones with the prettier tread pattern.

dont like high roller on the front (certainly not for mid lean which you have to go thru before you get to high lean angles!) and have no confidence in it.

Minion on the front (supertacky in alps, regular for UK), then matching Minion on the rear when its loose/muddy/gnarl, Crossmark when its bone dry/smooth.

Did quite a lot of tyre thread surfing a while back and on US "freeride" orientated forums (as opposed to XC race whippets) the consensus was gnarly front, smooth rolling (semi slick) rear (where I think the HR is better suited, and pretty much what SBrock runs in t'peaks).

bit cheeky but if he doesn't want I might be interested in making an offer if they are 2.35s?
