After seeing yet more great footage of Nepal mountain biking last night at the Singletrack MTB film night.....I thought well why not.

I'm carrying load of extra holidays, and am at a loose end over christmas so rather than get fat why not go and do some mountain biking.

I know there is the Trans Nepal race on, can't seem to find much about it. Anyone else doing it? The race seems pretty short (5 days) so would like to stay on after the race and do some extra stuff to justify flights etc.

Alternatively does anyone know any companies operating trips over this period in Nepal? Preference would be to ride singletrack and jeep tracks rather than tarred roads with loads of traffic.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Try emailing a few trekking companies, or try the Pokhara MTB club, run by a french chap. He knows loads of good riding in the area, top guy.

Pokhara to Kathmandu with KE Adventure? Dec 22 to Jan 4.
Alternatively you could go to Kerala with MTB Kerala. I know it's not in Nepal, they're one of the few companies that do Christmas trips though.

contact tangi at pokhara mtb club, top bloke and good rider and knows a lot of good tracks, he will tailor riding to suit you. Or contact chimmi or sonam gurung at dawn til dusk bikes in ktm. Chimmi will sort a tour for you, sonam rides every morning early around the kathmandu valley there is a small group of them and if you go and have a chat with him in his shop in thamel he is happy for folks to join him, may cost you a couple of cups of tea (bout 20 p) I am back in nepal at christmas having lived there a few years back and hope to ride but will be limited as i have the kids with me so i just hope ot get a c oupleo fearly morning with sonam and a ride and a beer with tangi. I fyou want any more info or any general info about the country drop me an email address in profile

I might be wrong, but I think Hungry-Monkey is going over for the Trans Nepal and spending a bit of time over there after. Might be worth giving him an email and seeing what he recommends? His company help sort out adventure holidays too so even if I'm wrong and he's not going they might be able to help.

[ears burning]

Yep, I'm doing the trans nepal - entries close this week I think.

Looking like it'll be a great event, and very much looking forward to it.

5 days, ~250km i think.

I'm heading out on the 22nd and returning on the 12th. not 100% sure what else I'll be up to, but plan on doing some more MTB and mebbe a short trek too. Once you've accounted for xmas and NY, it actually doesn't leave that much free time!!

tamarvin @ googlemail.com if you want more info, and as whatnobeer said, I do work in the adv holiday industry.
