My 11yr old currently has a Carrera Banshee which although nice and bouncy is as heavy as a elephant holding a bus. Ideally I need a short travel cheap (as he's still not fully into it - probably because riding a heavy beast is an arse) lightweight alternative. Would appreciate some ideas for suitable frames...old or new.

Used vintage Marin Mount Vision. Bought my son a 15" one for £150 off ebay. Full XT groupset and I upgraded bars, stem, saddle and wheels and added disk front wheel. He loved it. First FS to win the world championships. It used to draw admiring glances from all riders of a certain age (my age). Very light. Now stolen 🙁

tbh Get him a lightweight HT, as light 'n cheap don't really go with FS.

Light, cheap and weeny don't sit together in my experience.
As above think retro - there have been a few 'old' Cannondale Femine Jekyll's come in on eBay, and a Turner on here recently. Sc Superlights/Juliana's would be my other search.

Thanks...

Old superlight or blur would be ideal but as you say b r, I may have to swap for hardtail.
