hi all can any one advise me , i have sram x5 rear mech , but need a new chain and cassette, can i use shimano as replacment and run with the sram.things are tight at the mo , so im looking for the cheap option, only need it to last through the winter, after that hope things will pick up a bit, cheers all.

Yeah, you can use shimano, their cassettes are better anyway, IMO. Shimano deore cassette, and a cheapy sram chain should be enough to keep you going, or merlin might be doing their bargain cassette and chain deals.

have a look at merlincycles.co.uk for deals - look at cassettes and there's always an option to buy a cheap chain with it too.
