Just bought an XTR chainset and XT shadow cassette (can't afford an XTR ever!!) for my Soda.
I race endurance events 10/12/24's and put in plenty miles so needs to be durable. Not had any issues with the Sram PC-991 but mostly ran that with a Raceface Deus up front (not that that makes any difference) but would/should I try the Shimano Dura Ace-XTR Chain 9 Speed 7701. Same price and then I'd be all shimano. Or another? Lighter the better but need it to last also......budget £30
SRAM 971 are good enough. CRC are selling a pack of 3 for £39.99.
Thats the same one that i use at the minute, Its lasted a while and not caused any problems, I snapped a 991 previously dont know if it was dodgy mind but the 971 was alot cheaper
The write ups are kinda all over the place guys...........
Keep it all Shimano and run the XTR chain. Can't go wrong.
Never had a problem with 991s. I use KMC X9-SLs, but they wear out very fast, over budget too.
I'm going to change to an XTR over winter (as I've got one kicking about), but I personally much prefer SRAM chains to Shimano.
I'm going to give the KMC a try...........
