Need a real mtb "expedition" to put the mountain into the bike? Highly recommend the TCR. Three 44 yr old gentlemen who should know better conquered the 100 mile 12,000ft epic last weekend in 3 days from Knighton-Rhayader-Llangurig-Dovey jct station. Extremely lucky with the weather, spot-on logistics with taxi porterage and pub sleepovers, we got lost just once and only one puncture and no mechanicals. Top tips have got to be: 1. Put Viewranger Premium on your iphone with battery back up. 2. Pack deep heat and Jelly Snakes. 3. There never is a 'final downhill' and there's always another climb. 4. Prepare for bog snorkling and ford swimming. 5. Electrolyte your camelbak up to the hilt.

See singletrack issue 51 for more info and the IMBA website for map and GPX

I hope Mayhem will now be a little easier on the thighs

Epic weekend.
I for one will never use the words "this last section is just the equivalent of one of our evening rides".

Big skies and big grins ๐Ÿ˜€

Record is 12 hours 10 by Terrahawk (over 9 hours riding time, 12 hours total). John hooligan did it in about 12 hours 20 before it all got "signposted" (yellow painted arrows). You'd have to pick a dry spell to improve much on either.

Yeah, did it a couple of years ago. Wonderful few days. No GPS either - Ordnance Survey all the way (the yellow arrows helped too).
