.......by a wild boar!! Pootling down a local trail this morning we heard a thundering of hooves in the undergrowth and a huge (honest) wild boar shot across the trail a few metres in front of us. Even though I am in Germany you do not see them that close up very often. Thankfully he was heading somewhere and did not pay us any attention as we were pretty sure after some discussion that we would not be able to out-run one.

Cycling in the Aude as a callow youth I heard a rustle to my right and saw three wild boar piglets keeping pace with me. I slowed down to get a better look and suddenly became aware of a much, MUCH louder rustling to my left. Mum was back and I was between her and her little darlings. Suffice to say that I shit it royally and cycled off screaming.

On the same ride I had an OTB avoiding a tortoise crossing the path who then tried to eat my tyre.

Suggest you take a portable barbecue with you on future rides, just in case!

An armadillo jumped into the air next my buddy's head one evening on a dusky trail, we all freaked out and nearly piled up. Apparently they can do that when startled. Note to self: Try not to startle armadillos.

Piedi, another great thing about living in Germany is the availability of wild boar at the butchers but I am not confident that I could take one down with a mini-pump or multi-tool!
