[#12458860]

Pending a proper ride-in-anger and inevitable fixing of whatever I haven't properly tightened... everything works, it's reasonably tidy and the bike is done!

It's a bit of a franken-bike with a mix of donated and new parts, but I think it's ready to go. It's been an epic learning journey with lots of youtube and help from people in the STW community. Now I understand how to put a bike together I feel so much better about riding and maintaining the buggers!

Thanks so much to those who responded to my questions over the last few weeks - the insight and expertise (and silliness) of the people on this forum is astounding.

well it gets a thumbs up from me!

I have last years red model, totally stock and its a great bike, so a custom build will be even betterererer.

enjoy!

Nice 👍 it's very satisfying assembling your first bike. The only problem being, you'll want to do it again...

Nice.

What size frame and dropper are you using?

It's a medium frame (I'm 5'9" and short legged) and a 150mm brand X dropper 😊

Very nice. I'm about to start on a Ragley Big Al build too. I went for the Raspberry frame which is in a box in the garage awaiting a headset fit this evening. That'll be it till next payday though.

Cheers for the reply. I was considering doing a Big Al build, and with almost identical parts. Do you know the approx weight of built bike?

I know the "waiting for the next payday" feeling... hence nabbing bits from other people to finish the build!

It weighs about 15kg based on my dodgy domestic scales. I haven't been too fussed about weight - this includes mid-level components, chunky tyres and a rimpact insert in the back.

Lovely. I built a Piglet late last year and it is a fantastic bike. I'd say enjoy, but I know you will anyway so it seems superfluous!

..... How come ? the XL Ragley frame is 2.2kgs. That's quite some weight for an Aluminium Medium build. The Pike should be around 1.95kgs, SLX drive chain fairly light... assuming you must have some very chunky wheels & tyres.

p.s looks great, like the colour scheme.

Cranks and pedals should be in the same plane as the chainstays, fore or aft of the chainring dependant on logos for photos (in your case fore), dropper posts should be in full extension, but otherwise that's a really lovely looking bike.
Nice work 👌

On the weight: I think you're right - it's actually closer to 14kg by comparison to my Canyon Strive which is about 17kg.

Measured by subtracting my weight from the bike plus me while standing on the scales and squinting at the needle between my feet!

Bike and garden glamour presentation fail!!

Lovely build that. Doesn't a good hardtail look miles better than any full suss?

Looks great, loving the metal badge, all bikes should have a metal badge.

What are your plans with the steerer? Are you going to leave it tall or cut it flush? I am in two minds as to what to do as it looks much nicer cut flush but leaves me with nowhere to go if I want to fiddle with bar height

Yeah - It's only my second proper bike, and first hardtail so I'll give it a while riding before I decide what to do with the steerer tube. I figure it's not CRAZY long for now!

Cool, now forget about all that crap, and go and ride somewhere fun. Looks ace by the way. If that's your first "proper" build then props. Love the subtle matching headset. Good choice.
