It has been a few months in the making and a lot more planning but today is new bike day!

Starling Roost (size L)
Cane Creek Helm coil at 140mm
Hope Tech4 E4, 200mm and 180mm 2.3mm rotors
DT XM481 on Hope Pro 5 wheels - my first ever home wheel build with rainbow nipples!
Specialized Butcher T9 front and Eliminator T7 rear tyres which may have been chosen partly for the particular shade of tanwall
Full SLX drivetrain, XT shifter
Burgtec carbon bar 30mm rise with the loud graphics carefully polished off, Sensus EMJ push on grips
Raceface Turbine stem 32mm
Burgtec pedals
Oneup dropper v2 240mm and SDG Bel air III saddle

It looks so good in the sunlight.

She'll be used for everything that my 160mm bike isn't great for - local laps, trail building ferry, out with the kids, taking on family holidays, muddy wet days when I can chuck it back in the shed filthy etc.

The most pleasant surprise so far is the brakes. I've returned a set of T4 V4 in the past because they were just so soft and loose feeling and I thought I'd take a chance on the E4s because I want so much to like them. So far I'm happy I did because these are nothing like that, they have a really short lever throw and very positive engagement. I can't believe that the slightly smaller pistons in the calliper makes so much difference so maybe I had dodgy V4s?

All that's left to do is trim the steerer a bit more once I'm sure on length and shorten the hoses a bit more to properly match the cable lengths. Oh and maybe tyre inserts and some better chain stay protection depending on how things go.

No weeds, pointing looks OK and your fence is straight.
Good effort.

Pics not showing for me but being partial to a raw frame - and even moreso a raw skinny-tubed one - I can't imagine it's going to look anything other than stunning.

That's weird, I used the forum image uploader but you're right I can only see the first image too. Let's try again with them hosted elsewhere.

The highest praise (you should see the rest of the garden though).

Tan walls not my favourite, but the rainbow nipples are ace! Rest of the bike is 👌

Oooh top work, that's lovely. I can see it now. Rim decals gone too combined with silver hubs/spokes are a good choice (I did the same on my raw bike).

A+

Raw has been on trend since the first GT Zaskar, possibly longer. Nice work OP.

Yeah, tanwalls are always divisive. I really like them on this bike because it has a kind of retro aesthetic but I don't think I'd have them on my carbon full sus.

That's so nice!

(I'm also not a fan of tanwalls but they look very good on that raw frame).

Nice! Be great when you grow in to it.

Lavender could’ve been trimmed better.

I can't believe I haven't put 2 + 2 together and I'm only just realising but I've got one of these in the loft waiting for my daughter's birthday next week.

They're the same! 🤣🤣

We were hoping for ostrich but we think they're put off by the poorly kept lavender.

Shimmy shimmy yay shimmy yay shimmay yaw.

Bike looks sick. I love the tan walls, good job on weeds.
I'd be careful leaving the bike there. If someone comes in through that gate it'll be all over the floor.

Oh don’t worry, that door has been jammed shut since it got wet in the Autumn.

Your bike looks so nice I didn’t even notice you had tan wall tyres on it (I hate tan wall tyres). Let us know how it rides as they’re expensive, but on my list of future options.

I'll be out on it tomorrow morning assuming the rain ever stops.

They do take cycle scheme vouchers though!

Haha, ODB would be a good name for this bike given it's going to be used in the winter slop.

Got out for a very sloppy ride today, but enjoyed it nevertheless. The back tyre is not good in this weather so that might need to change, otherwise I'm buzzing. The bike is loads of fun and the geometry made me feel comfortable right away so I was immediately happy to hit all the same features as on my full sus. A ~6ft drop to a nice sloped transition is about the biggest and I wasn't sure I'd want to do that with no rear suspension but it was great!

Bike with mud.
