Soooo I had no real plans to buy an e-bike. Then Paul’s cycles had the Lapierre AM Overvolt 6.7 on offer at £2499. This coincided with Merlin selling Fox Performance Elite 38 forks for £499 and the Fox X2 shock for £250. My parts bin was also overflowing with other bits that I could upgrade on the bike and also sell all surplus stuff… anyway, the stars aligned and I find myself the slightly surprised recipient of a pretty cheap ebike on the grand scale of things.
I wasn’t expecting much tbh but as it turns out, I’m pretty blown away by how nice the bike actually is! I had a few challenges seating the Assegai on the front, so that’s not in the pic from yesterday, but it’s now sorted. I also need to fit the bushings for the new shock, and stick in a 170mm dropper I have. But apart from that, she is finished and good to go, I don’t even feel the need to swap out the brakes, although I have spare sets if the ones fitted with the bike are a bit lacking on big descents.
With the Gen 4 CX performance motor and 750 battery, she is a heavy old girl, but the decent weight distribution means it feels nice going fast on the trails. I was a bit apprehensive about jumping initially and I toyed with the idea of going somewhere with big tabletops, but then, in for a penny in for a pound and all that. First time hitting some jumps with decent gaps and boy was I surprised. Pretty much landed on the take off for the second jump in the row, which gave me a moment. 🙂 After re calibrating and hitting everything more sedately, the bike really does pop, it’s very chilled on jumps, I look forward to taking it to Revs for a play on some big stuff! I’m glad I am changing the shock, the one with it feels nice generally, but over 6 foot on drops or landing flat on gap jumps and it feels weak sauce.
Nice looking bike but your lawn needs a feed
