Right, following on from my previous long winded post hopefully this one will be shorter!
I listened to the advice given, visited some bike shops, spoke online to some people...and have narrowed it down to a choice of two.
The most important bit of advice was "buy the bike for the riding you're doing now, not the riding you think you might do in future". On that basis I've chosen to go hardtail, 650b, and with a budget of just over £1000 (based on the monthly repayments - has to be on finance)
So, the two are :
Scott Scale 750
Genesis Latitude 20
I've seen the Scott, and sat on it (S & M size...and really could have done with a size in the middle - so I guess buy the small? M was okay though?). Not seen the Genesis as can't find anyone locally with it in stock.
The spec on the Scott definitely looks better, but the Genesis has that lovely steel frame...
Basically - which should I buy?!
