Does the chainring lose the ability to retain the chain before its properly worn? Think mines done around 1000 miles and has just started dropping the chain fairly regularly. I have a clutch rear mech which is fine with the clutch working as it should.

Yeah they wear out, how soon depends on what you are riding through but 1000 miles seems a good life what else you replaced in that time?

Pretty sure the chainring, cassette and chain all went on at the same time. Nothing is slipping yet and chain doesnt need replacing, well according to a chain checker anyway. Not really replaced anything in that time, well gear cable and shock bushings but I think thats it.

Its a Supoerstar components one.

Bearings in rear hub a bit sticky? might cause it to drop if you back-pedal (e.g. when switching over leg down for cornering)

Second a slightly worn chain ring.
Not worn enough to slip but worn enough to drop the chain in the rough stuff.

Are the jockey wheels rotating freely? Mine started dropping in the smaller sprockets and wrecked jockey wheel bearings were the reason.

Mine started dropping the chain when the chain went past 1.0 worn - I hadn't checked it for a while...

Chainring likely culprit

Mines started doing the same, thing the clutch in the rear mech is goosed but the drivetrain is also worn.

Could be chain rather than chainring. I started losing chain regularly – only just reached 0.75% stretch when measured, but laterally it was baggy as a <InsertSuitableCrudeMetaphorHere>. Could almost bend the chain back on itself sideways. Replaced chain, kept same chainring and cassette – all hunky dory now.
