Not sure what to do! I've got a beautiful yeti 575 2006 in team colours as new or do I sell and buy the new cannondale jekyll 4 2011? The reason for me would be lifetime warranty on the jekyll frame but the yeti has somesome special that i can't describe! If that makes sense? Please give your views on my dilemma.

Have they sorted the supply out? I wanted to size one up as the next major bike purchase but sort of lost interest with the delays - Ended up slumming it with some UK bikes that have turned out surprisingly good.

The thing that would give me pause about the jekyll is the rear shock - I'd need to be convinced about it. I rode leftys for ten years - Outstanding fork and enough people shared that opinion that specialists sprung up to get it serviced without too much hassle. CDale putting another sophisticated shock (by bike standards) onto the market - you can forget about taking it to your LBS. It really needs to be awesome and reliable (like the lefty) to justify the hassle of keeping it working.

Do you know anyone who has a new jekyll - I've not seen one on the trails myself.

Not seen one myself, I rode a lefty for 5 years on a old style jekyll and loved it, but the jekyll is missing the lefty and has that rear shock that is over complicated but reviews show performance is good but weight is also an issue 30lb+ i can buy a 4 for £1599 and maybe get £900 for the yeti. The yeti is a great bike and looks the dogs but the cannondale looks equally as good.
Cheers

Ride the Yeti until it snaps? Then have a think? Might not take long, might take years.

I have the cannondale you are talking about and can recommend it, there doesn't seem to be too many reports of people having problems with the dyad shocks but it's early days.

My experience is that the although the shock has two modes, it performs much better in flow mode and along with the stiffness of the frame, this gives a lot of confidence when descending and cornering. The elevate mode definitely makes climbing more enjoyable but although it's travel is reduced, its not that supple and small bump performance isn't great.

I think the weight of the 4 is more down to the other components and not the frame, although the dyad shock adds a bit of weight being about twice the weight of other rear shocks, it's not too bad in comparison with other all mountains bikes.

I've just rebuilt my '06 yeti with an XT double groupset and some crest rimmed hope hoops.

Not completely finished, but I've weighed it without pedals and with the wrong bars and stem on (got a thomson and haven carbon coming soon) and it came to about 26.5 lbs - not bad for a 150mm full suss 🙂

Hi thanks for the replies, been to allterrain today to have a look at the Cannondale and it does look nice but no classic, the main issue is the weight it felt heavy compared to my Yeti. I think the out come could be keep the Yeti (until it snaps :wink:jambon)Dave any chance of the rebuild.

presume you meant 'pics of the rebuild'... will do when it is finished.

speaking of snapping, mine is on its second swingarm - snapped the alu one and yeti replaced it with the carbon version.

it snapped at the chainstay to dropout weld on the non-driveside; the carbon swingarm has a completely different join there which looks much stronger

If mine snaps again, it might find itself replaced with an ASR5 🙂

Keep the Yeti 🙂

The "improvement" you'll get just won't be worth the money.

This one ain't getting replaced until it breaks
