Here is Coastkid's ex...built up in cross-guise (i.e. narrow tyres):

First (road) impressions...it seems stiff, but a little too heavy to have that nice steel zing. I weighed the F&F at 3.7kg (over 8lb!). I don't think it's going to offer any benefits to me over my Kona alu & carbon forks which is almost 3lb lighter - that rides lighter and is still stiff enough for touring.

So it may well be for sale soon!

Hmmm How tall for a medium I'm 6ft? However if Geoff decides on it I will let him have first dibs!

Medium may be a bit small for a six footer. I'm on a large at 6 foot 1 and an 18" medium would definitely be too small for me. Salsa are pretty spot on with their sizing charts so have a look there.

I had a medium and I'm just over 5'10", I sold it pretty sharpish for the reasons given by the OP. McMoonter now has the frame.

Loving it Cupra, but it's even heavier with a rack, mudguards and Marathon XRs

Well I'm a long legged 6' 0.5", a L might be better but I prefer to go small for off roading (tho I've not done any on this bike yet FH!)

Like that well-fitted 9:zero:7 frame you bought?

Al

Just admit that you bought the wrong size because it was cheap! ๐Ÿ˜‰

As for the weight, ride it and I doubt you'll really notice it. Mine is used to carry my wee one to nursery as well as for long adventure rides. It's a cracking bike that does a lot of things really rather well.

weighs about 26 lbs with pedals so not bad really

Druid, stick it up your hoop, it prob cost half the price of yours

Sanny, I paid a fair price and it was local. I'm afraid I very much notice the weight of my peevious build.

Emporer's new clothes me thinks!

Hmm this really was on my short list for later in the year as a frame, not so sure now but a few extra pounds won't hurt me I can lose double whatever penalty a heavy bike gives! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

There are not that many outlets for these so trying one will take a bit of effort, sounds like it may be worth it in case I no likey!

To be fair though, aren't these designed for long trips with a good bit of luggage in tow...?
8lbs including the fork isn't that bad, my old 29er Inbred was not far off that with a Swift steel fork.

Al, how tall is the front ?

How useable do folk find these off road with those bars?

Agreed taki, I just wanted to try a bike designed for off road with drops (my other one is a flat bar frame with drops & a short stem)

A bike designed for off-road with drops would be a Cross bike.

I've always considered the Fargo to be a sturdy on/off road tourer - the sort of thing you could disappear into the wilds with safe in the knowledge that nothing is going to snap and leave you stranded, with a suitable compromised riding position to suit. Given that, I'm not surprised at the weight.

FWIW, CRC are selling Kona Sutras off cheap at the moment......
