that last picture looks a lot better. You may want to flip the stem, probably best trying it both ways - there isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' despite what some may say about slamming stems etc 🙂

It's the stem being 'the wrong way round' that makes it look a bit odd.

Genesis always seem to come with the stem that way up. This was my CDF before I got fettling :

My Equilibrium came with the stem the right way round -

But it's a road bike, not a CX / tour / commute bike like the CdF.

basically it will adjust your weight distribution a bit more and drop your head and shoulders a few inches. Gets a more efficient road esq shape, but arguably less good for Cx/tour etc as above.

Really best to go try it. On my 2014 Croix I had it flipped up, on my 2015 one I have it down, and the frame geometries are only slightly different. Whatever feels comfortable will be best, everyone has different levels of flexibility etc , so many many variables

I have my bars on my commuter set quite high (mainly due to the urgent need to replace a stem with something cheap and in the spares box of the lbs). I find it's better when commuting through the city centre, less strain on the back and neck.

Fantactic deal btw

It may mean that you never use the drops.. forget what 'looks' right or gets the nod for looking like a race bike, just get comfy. If it's not right somehow after the first few hours I expect a layback post may be worth a try before worrying about the stem too much. I have an inline post one one of my road bikes but generally they feel odd, they can sit you too far fwd and make it a lot harder to get in balance.

Nice bike btw : ) my favourite Equilibrium colour / generation there.

Renton if you are looking at fitting guards but are struggling for space, have a look at the giant defy mud guard. Think they can be had for 25 to 30 quI'd.

Cheers.

I tried a quick for of the velo 42 I had in the shed and there was no way they were fitting.

Ok so the front mech is fitted and set up.

Ive also had a play with the cockpit set up to and this is how it stands now.........

I noticed that although the chainset is a double, the front shifter seems to be a tripple?

Is there a way of changing it to a double at all?

Stems a funny thing with a 72deg ha 110mm 6deg stem pos rise with no spacers is the same as a neg rise 110mm -6 neg stem with 20mm spacers . Iirc there is only 1mm of rise / reach difference. So in some combos it really is only about the looks rather than performance

So misterp you could really lose thr 20mm spacers and flip the stem the so called wrong way round and have the same fit but no spacers. Depends on your perception of right. Flipped stem or spacers under a neg rise stem

I only know this as im playing with options for my new bike im waiting on

Set up looks much better to me. You could rotate the bars back a touch as well if you feel the nee but that's a reasonable start point.

Re. Shifters, there's no way of changing them from a triple to a double but if you set the limit screws on the front mech up you'll be fine. In fact, I have a feeling that shifters of a certain range and vintage only came in triple form. May be wrong in that though.

Nice bike that, £30 is a steal. I paid over £200 for a used frame and fork.....

I've bookmarked this to get a picture of mine up when I get a chance, very proud of it, looks lovely and suitably different from the plastic bike in terms of looks and ride.

Don't be bullied into setting the bike up as the snobs say you should, it needs to be comfy. If you are coming from a mtb background (like I did) it may take a while for you to adjust to the position, I started with a +16 90mm and as I've become more used to the road moved to a +6 100mm, which is now starting to feel a little short

Double shifters still have 3 clicks. The second click is a trim position when using the smaller cogs on the cassette in the smaller ring at the front.

Flipped stem or spacers under a neg rise stem
starting with a neg rise with spacers means that if you change your mind/get different stem etc you've got more steerer to play with 🙂

This is true . But often people call the stem police when really the spacer police should have been alerted 😉

What's all this about the QR being on the wrong side? I've always set mine up with the lever on the non-drive side, but I can't see why the opposite would be wrong.

Nice looking bike by the way. Should be a lot better for your commute than the MTB. Have fun.

yes, and the white saddle that came with the bike.

Yours for postage, although in reality you might get a better deal buying a post from one of the onlines with their cheap/free postage.
