red one was bought in feb 04 and still going strong, now got 5.3 rockers, fox talas 15mm and a rp23
silver one is a frankenturner built with frame spares off ebay and a raw ($50 cheaper) front end from turner usa and push 5.75 rockers, now with 09 talas 36's and the pushed dhx with a ti spring

I think all the pics of 5 Spot's with coils confirms it. They just look way better. 8)

i'm still a Turner fan, but reckon the new Nicolai Helius AM And AC beat them for ride ability and quality.
AC is a direct alternative to the 5 Spot imo.

And then someone had to ruin the nice thread with some over engineered German tat with a front basket.

coogan - sorry , but it's the true evolution of the Spot without going to the DWL imo.
far superior build and finish than the Turner too, fwiw.

TLR,if Nicolai are so good why are you always on about shock problems and pedal strikes?

you needed a CCDB to sort out pedal strikes? That was a cheap fix

Can you tell the difference in the suspension Wwith the new DW Link
How's the Flux compared to the 5 Spot?
Aren't they doing similar jobs?

Had an xce for 6 years till it wore out, the rear bushing holes enlarged(turner make a repair kit)so got myself a red dw flux, great and it weighs a bit more than 28lbs nearer 30lbs but i prefer strength over lightness, having broken one or two lighter bite in the odd spill, i race it and do trail centres etc the 100mm travel plus tubeless setup means no punctures in 4 years and i can pick slighly rougher lines

Notice much difference PH? don't think I can have them as my front mech cable stop is on the rear of the seat tube.

BB I guess we are "Homers" in MTBR parlance?

Pedal head how do you find the push rockers. I've recently aquired a 5 spot HL and was wondering about fitting some along with say a talas 36 in preparation for a trip to the Alps in the summer. My front mech hanger is round the back so I realise there may be an issue there but I'm sure that can be surmounted. Anybody else got experience of running big forks and longer rockers on the pre DW 5 spot? Oh and nice bike by the way Hadge!

My 04 5 Spot has Turner 5.5 rockers, with 2.1 Nevagals on Mavic 717's it doesn't get close to hitting the cable hanger

I prefer the push rockers with a longer fork (including the pikes). Feels better balanced front & back. I reckon it'd be ace with a talas 36 on the front. I doubt you'll get any problems unles you're running 2.4 rubber queens or something.

Haven't had chance to build the DW Flux up yet. When that happens i'll give a direct comparison against the 2004 5-Spot.
Thanx Max

Here's my flux, 05 i think. i've had the burner and 5 spot (HL) (as well as asr sl, an iron horse something and a few others). I find the flux better for most trail centers, as I'm far from knarly. It's plenty light, i've had it below 24lbs with pedals before, it's about 25.5lbs here i reckon.

It's great! ๐Ÿ˜€

I did love the 5 spot thou, very nice bike.

When I built my 5 Spot up I used most of the parts of my Spesh Enduro and never made any attempt to build it up light but after weighing it I was pleasantly surprised by it's 27.7lb which includes some heavy-ish rimmed wheels. My older Spot came in at 30lb ish but had the DHX coild shock but after having it's first proper ride out yesterday I was impressed with the Pushed RP23 and so it looks like it'll be staying on for good ๐Ÿ™‚
