I really like the Superstar XL grips, but they are way too long at 150mm.
Is there anything else of a similar thickness/comfort, but of a shorter length, which might suit? Or am I going to have to get wider bars? ๐

Why are they too long?
They push my controls too far inboard.
ESI's
If you've not tried wider bars then this could be a good chance, you may like it.
I run Superstar Size Zeros on bars 725mm and more, I like that I have all that available width to use. I don't have big hands.
Do your hands rest naturally in the centre of the grip or towards/over the end plug?
Do you "one finger brake"?
If so, wider bars.
If not, give it a go.
How wide are your bars and what brakes/shifters are you using?
I bought wider bars because I couldn't get my controls in far enough.
DMR lockon grips only have a clamp at one end, so you can cut them down.
Handy for a Rohloff where the RH grip is shorter for the grip-shift, but LH is full length.
IMO you shouldn't be changing bar width because of the grips...
Current bars are 710mm. I have XT brakes, SLX shifters (2 x 10) and Reverb on left underside. Wouldn't mind rearranging left hand side to get Reverb remote further out.
Yep - one finger braking (the Alps taught me that!!). My hands tend to rest on the outside of the bars rather than the centre of the grips.
I could go wider on the bars but if I get some grips which are 130mm long rather than 150mm then that could make a massive difference. I certainly wouldn't rule out new bars if it was an opportunity for a nice upgrade...
Out of the ones suggested above I'm fancying the look of the Race Face Strafes.
Thanks for the suggestions. ๐
Cut them down, Ive done this on my kids bikes. I even if they are lock on both ends, it can some times be done, and one end holds well anyway.
My hands tend to rest on the outside of the bars rather than the centre of the grips.
If you think about it, that can't be optimal for grip and control, and is why you can't reach your controls. You need either wider bars, or a longer stem (a longer reach will narrow your hand positioning) with your current bars.
Sorry - I probably didn't describe it well - I don't mean that I literally rest the palms on the outside edge of the bars, but I do position my hands towards the outside of the bars. So I reckon you could be right on the wider bars suggestion.
Try some 750s, your controls will be 20mm closer and you get 20mm more to play with on the outside. I find I use it all. You can get them pretty cheap on classifieds if you keep an eye out.
Will give it a whirl - cheers!
