I think buses are wonderful and people should use them more.

i use public transport all the time in stockholm. it's great.

not so keen on it in the uk as it's minging, expensive and usually late. and they do seem to have a higher dobber quotient here. but you do get to see all sorts. which is grand.

Had a choice today...bus, car or bike......I enjoyed the ride to work on the bike on fairly traffic free roads...

I suppose it depends where you live. I bet all the people bitching about buses are frightful provincial oiks, aren't you?. You probably work on a hideous out-of-town industrial estate don't you? In a big shed?

If you're in the City then everyone uses public transport. You have to. You want to drive into a major every day, you'd have to be:

a) Insane. Have you seen the traffic at 8.45am?!!
b) Minted. Check out the cost of all day parking and add that up over a month. That's a great leveller. You'll overcome your snobbery pretty damn quick when you weigh that cost up

The alternative: The laminated tickets mentioned are 'Megariders'. £11.50 a week for unlimited bus travel anywhere in the city. That's not bad going. About half a days parking in the city centre.

binners - You forgot to mention that buses in cities often run till the early hours of the morning, so it's great if you're out on the booze.

Getting the Magic Bus home at three in the morning with the students is always fun.

I know it's an odd suggestion on this website of all places, but there are these things called "bicycles".

finbar - Bikes when drunk aren't a good idea. Well sometimes they are, but not when buses are ready to knock you off.

I always get the train instead, its a bit more expensive but the class of people onboard is a lot better plus we all stand by the rules of train users

e.g do not involve another user in conversation unless it is go gain access to a empty seat,

...and when a train arrives at the station, cluster around the doors in an 'angry mob' formation and appear surprised when people have the indignation to try and leave the train before you get on. Under no circumstances move out of the way, as this betrays weakness and will hinder your attempts to spread your laptop, coat, rucksack and newspapers all over the four-seater section.

(bitter train commuter)

The bike is always my first choice fella. The bus second. I never ever drive into town - for the reasons listed above. But commuting in this weather through city streets? Are you mad?! Not a chance! I'd like to live to see Christmas thank you 😀

Ever got the train from Leeds to Halifax? Those people are mental, crowding the doors like something out of Dawn of the Dead.

Well i was looking forward to my (one off) bus ride home tonight, but will now be donning latex gloves, face mask, and the guardian to ward off unwanted attention from my fellow human beings.
I have vague recollections of my last bus ride, whereby if you are not grasping any immovable object on the bus you will be propelled in any given direction dependent on whether the driver is stopping , starting or taking the corners at 60mph on a blind bend. I guess it will be even more eventful on ice.

Fair enough, even i'd pick the bus over a car into London. And if you're drunk buses become much more tolerable! (though not for the other passengers of course 😆 )

Whoever's on early shift will always blag a few Metros, before they get put on the buses, for us to read in the canteen at break time.
The late shift service crew sweep out every bus as it comes in and will scavenge any other papers they find and bring them in the canteen as well for variety.

The only newspapers they have ever found left on a bus have been the Sun, Mirror and Star.

what logic, TJ and (partly) binners said.

I'm glad/ lucky to live where buses and people on them are good.

I don't think I'm too much of a snob either, thankfully, tho I'm clearly a bit snug about that.

So am I - and our bus drivers are among the most courteous road users, certainly a lot more so than all the d*ckheads (and their wives) who drive around in those ****ing big pick-up trucks emblazoned with model names like "Warrior" and "Trojan".
We travel on buses quite a lot in Greece too, and they're really excellent there.

Our buses are usually empty in rural Somerset.I use it once a week to go to skittles £4.85 return is cheaper than spending £25 + on two taxis .If I miss the last bus I walk 5 miles instead.
