Gave my bike a quick once over last night only to find that the shock pivot axle has sheared. Bugger! Why do things like this always happen before a planned weekend away riding?

This is why you whould have n+1 bikes... then you'd have a number of broken bikes to choose from IME ๐Ÿ˜‰

sounds fairly catastrophic - you didn't notice when it happened ?

Happened to me on a weekend away, only noticed it while cleaning the bike back at home.

Well the bearing, bolt and half the axle only popped out last night when I took it for a quick spin down our lane to check the shifting. Felt very wobbly indeed once it had come out. Not sure when it actually split.

I've got another bike but it needs building up, and not the ideal bike for the weekend. Definitely need more bikes!

Well that was expensive! A new pro pack and bearing press ordered from santa cruz uk for 140 quid.

Could have just got the axle but I've not changed the bearings in a while. Also got the press so I can make a hash of it myself before having to take it down my LBS to get it properly fixed ๐Ÿ˜•

If you don't clean your bike it never breaks. Have you ever seen a hairline crack on a mud-covered bike?

Big thanks to jungle products (santa cruz uk) and royal mail, new axle and tools to fit have just arrived less than 24 hours after ordering, hopefully bike will be back in action for my weekend away ๐Ÿ˜€
