Well, as I’m currently down to one bike at the moment, that being a 140/130mm travel FS, my HT has been broken down and sold on to fund a new HT which is now awaiting wheels & forks to arrive.
When my mate rang me on Friday asking if I was heading out this weekend, we decided that due to random commitments a local ride round the woods was called for. This is a ride I normally would do on said 115mm HT, it’s a mixture of flowing single track with plenty of root, little drops and at this time of year a bit of mud.
So off we rode into the woods, once I’d remembered that the bars on my bike were 711mm wide and some of the trees are just a bit wider than that, things started to speed up a fair old bit to the point where my bike basically flattened everything to little ripples.
Now I’m not complaining, but it kind of kills the terrain if you know what I mean, at times it had that “Speeder-bike” feel that you can get at night as you’re whizzing past trees that you don’t really notice.
Looking back at it, I can’t wait to get my new HT built up for these kind of rides and those where there’s not exactly a lot of rocks.
It probably won’t be as fast but, it’ll certainly bring back some of the character to the ride.
