[#11731207]

Hi,
I have a Transition Scout and i'm contemplating turning it into a reverse mullet bike, i want to see if it makes much difference to the ride.
I have seen that a video has been made where this has been done ,in the video they use Marzocchi Bomber Z1 130mm forks for the 29er wheel. I have searched all over for these but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.
Can anyone suggest a similar fork that would also work?
Needs to be:
130mm
36mm stanchion
44mm offset

Cheers

By reverse mullet do you mean putting a big wheel and fork on a 650b bike (rather than a little wheel in a 29er)?

Needs to be:
130mm
36mm stanchion
44mm offset

Rather than that need to be corresponding A2C minus increase of front end due to usage of bigger wheel.

Providing that I have it right... 650b frame with 650b rear wheel and 29" front wheel?

Unless by reversed mullet you meant small wheel front, big wheel rear...
... that would be pretty perverse...

But if that is the first one, it is not a problem. I used to have Inbred 26er with 29er front wheel. It was good bike.

Cheers!
I.

Yes thats what i'm after.
I know it can be done and it works well by all accounts. I'm just after advice on what forks would work without having too much effect on the geometry

You need roughly 40mm less travel to get same geom.

What about a Pike?

https://www.bikeinn.com/bike/rockshox-pike-select-charger-rc-crown-boost-42-mm/137670071/p?utm_source=google_products&utm_medium=merchant&id_producte=11315129&country=uk&gclid=CjwKCAiAjeSABhAPEiwAqfxURdHUxqxP1PKYlwJG27PWpV3T0gNZ3SwOPJTViKut6uewWNOkE1aPhxoCLRoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Numbers are slightly off from what you are quoting but not much - 35mm stanchions and 42mm offset.

I mulleted my G170 with 160mm Lyriks (down from 170 as standard) and it rides great...

Your current A2C of forks.

A2C of forks that you need is current A2C minus difference between your current front wheel height and new 29er wheel height divided into 2.

Job jobbed...

Cheers!

Yeah i had seen the Pike which seems to be the closest available match i can find.

Just thought i'd throw it out on here to see if there were any recommendations or experiences

The rockshox Pikes and lyrics are 35mm stnachion not the 36 you asked for, but adding material means they are comparable. I dont think a Lyric will go as short as you want.

Cant fault my pikes in 650b 140 guise, or 29 130. Both total adequate for my 85+ kg weight and lack of technique. Dont get taken in by an internet arms war on fork stiffness is what I'm trying to say

Also don’t forget airshafts are fairly cheap, so keep an eye out for bargains in unpopular sizes - I got some Lyrik ultimate 29s with 150mm travel for circa £200 less than the more popular sizes then just swapped out the air shaft for thirty quid. For the same reason I wouldn’t worry too much about experimenting and seeing what rides best...

Pike or a Fox 36 and a bunch of others. I'd even consider a Fox 34 at only 130mm travel. Just make it 20mm shorter than the stock 27.5" travel length. If its 150mm stock then go 130mm 29er and you will only have a very slight static geo change (slightly slacker and slightly higher BB). Go 30mm shorter than stock if you want virtually zero static geo change, but then you'd likely end up with less travel in the ftont vs back, which wouldnt be ideal.

I've done this with a Banshee Spitfire V2. Was originally full 27.5" with 140mm rear 160mm front. Now running it as 140mm 29er front. Personally I think it makes it a better bike but others would prefer the full 27.5". It's slightly less flickable/playful now (not that I ever did mutch "flicking") but now it monsters over stuff with very little slowing it down.

I have an Evil Calling that I run mulleted. It's designed around a 150mm fork. I run it with a 140mm Pike (I don't know the offset because no normal human being can tell the difference. It's worth hunting down Seb Stott, Mr Science at MBUK's article about offset because he couldn't tell the difference). The head angle has gone to 63.5 degrees from 65.5, the angle from the BB to the centre of my seat (which is run all the way forward on the rails) is 76 degrees.

The Calling and Scout have similar remits. The 140mm Pike suits what I've done to the bike very nicely. If you need something burlier get a Lyrik. 35mm Rockshox forks have always been stiffer than Fox forks with 36mm stanchions. I'd suspect given Marzocchis are Fox forks the same may be true there.

Cane Creek Helm would do the job - you can adjust travel on them easily enough without having to change the aishaft so can muck around with different settings.
