Just wondered if anyone on here has ever been mugged for their bike? It happened to me when I was 10 but you do hear of it from time to time.

Anyone here (as an adult obviously...)?

Bunch of kids tried it on me back in July - on my way home from a night ride and went along the canal 🙄
They didn't get my bike but they did wreck my ankle - sprained so badly i'm still suffering with it now.

Some years back I was working as a cycle courier in Manchester. I was living on pennies and had only my bike as a source of income, so beside better judgement I was doing it on an old but fairly valuable freeride hardtail. Late one evening I was riding home with my weeks wages (maybe £70 lol) through that wonderful place known as Moss Side, when a car pulled up to the give way line of a side street in front of me. The main road was clear but the car stopped anyway as if to let me continue on in front of him, so I rode on in front of the car to the other side.
I wasn't moving very fast, so by the time I had reached the car the man on the passenger side had managed to get out and move around to the front, where he intercepted me and proceeded to lunge for the handlebars and grab ahold of them.
I was brought abruptly to a halt and immediately assaulted with this mans vigorous attempts to wrench the bike from my grip while shouting that I should give it up. I'm only a small guy and this chap was pretty big so fighting my way out didn't really present itself as an option, but since this was my livelihood at stake I wasn't giving up that easy, I just sorta held on to it and told him he couldn't have it.
Eventually he stopped and backed off, saying that he'd only been joking and that I shouldn't give up my bike for anyone. I was pretty shaken, but pleased to have stood up for myself all the same. It's not the only time this has happened but this was by far the worst, nobody has had a bike off me yet though.

a while back a couple of local upsatnding members of the community in northampton asked in a polite manner if i would see my way clear to furnishing them with my steed......i suggested in my best belfast accent i would take much pleasure if they would premit me to break both their legs as part of the deal, after our verbal joust we agreed to go our seperate ways with neither polite request met for either party.

An old friend of mine was also stabbed in the stomach for his bike in Hackney not far from that attack in Dalston about 10 years ago. He spent a few weeks in hospital for his trouble.

A mate of mine got pushed off his bike, he exchanged pleasantries with the attackers and... they said "Sorry, wrong bike, no hard feelings, right?"

I was mugged by middle class middle aged folks when I was about 10 or 11 - they had had a break-in and a bile similar to mine (Apollo Kalamunda later Apollo Kaos) was pinched. They grabbed it/me outside the library near home and didn't let go until I insisted my dad would still have the receipt! Cheeky Buggers!

Mate of mine had his DH bike taken by a group of guys when he lived in Mile End. Got back up after receiving a beating and chased them, only to get another beating for his trouble!

Cheers, Rich

When I used to live in central Bristol, I had two occasions where youths had been waiting in side streets on my road to catch me coming back from night rides. The underground garage area of our block was regularly robbed for bikes and they obviously knew of my bike but could never find it in the garage (it was kept indoors).

Luckily there was always a downhill street to detour off down and lose them but really shit me up. Really sad but I had to start driving the two miles to the ride destination! 🙄

Had two youths run at me, but spotted them and rode off.
Recently had a hooded chav run at me, but again, just rode off.
Couson had two Samarlians (sp??) try to attack him for his bike in town, He decked both of them.
Friend had group of stoned/ Khat eating Samarlians try to get his bike on the canal. Didn't though

Some 10 years ago I got a job in Walton, some small trees needed chopping down in somebody's garden. On arrival I discovered she had no axe, no saw, no nothing so I went to Homebase and bought an axe. Nice and light but still useful for the job. On the way back to the garden a small group of teenagers stopped me and wanted my bike (£90 jobbie from Moto World) until I decided to pull the axe off my rucksack. Nobody bothered me since. Lucky me.

A group of about 6 neds tried to drag me off my bike when I lived in Glasgow in the clyde tunnel. Fortunately they weren't too bright. They stepped out infront of me when I was descending and tried to block the path. I weighed about 14 stone and was doing about 25mph and just ducked my head down and stuck my elbows out. It was like 10 pin bowling with neds and I just carried straight on, had a couple of bruises. I was a bit shaken and called the police and they made some arrests for drugs and weapons!

about 3 months ago saw some guy get mugged for his commuter bike in Islington, London.

the mugger went to ride off on the bike, the guy whos bike it was legged it after him and ripped him off, to which the thief turned round and said "lock it or lose it mate" which i found quite a bizzare concept

when I lived in Glasgow in the clyde tunnel

You lived in the Clyde Tunnel, Doug? 😉

I used to live in Anniesland and rode through the tunnel fairly regularly to go to the climbing wall in Ibrox. Always a bit nerve-wracking. Passed bunches of neds at speed a few times, intending to use exactly the same tactic as you if necessary!

Also, it's amazing how many people don't know about the separate pedestrian/bike tunnels.

I've had a couple of near attacks on the canal coming into Manchester many years ago. Never worked out if they just wanted a fight or wanted my bike but since I always accelerated up to attack speed and aimed at the biggest one when anyone ever stood in the middle of the path I never found out.

That would be me 😳

Ended up going through the tunnel proper one evening. Downhill was ok and I even passed a few cars but the slog back uphill was slow and painfully embarassing

I think a couple of the lads from Manchester Uni Cylin club got done a couple years ago.

There are some areas of Manchester which are NASTY.
Also recently i was on a train going out to New Mills and chatting with another rider (whos bike was infront of mine) when to chavs got off the train and ran off with his bike.

The doors of the train closed and he couldn't get out to chase them. By the time he got off it was too long. In the ****ing peak district!

stevomcd. Not actually in the tunnel but not much better; I lived in Whiteinch! I used the tunnel regularly to go climbing in Ibrox too. I was down there a few times a week pretty regular with my bike locked against the railings outside.

Weird eh? And now we're both doing the MTB thing.

Wait a minute, are you me?? 🙂

Years ago riding through my local park I was on the road and saw two lads step out a little way in front of me and stop. The road was quite narrow at that point and on one side was a huge rockery type arrangement. I could read their intentions quite clearly but couldn't go straight on, they'd just have pushed me straight off. That only left me one way out, across the sandy horse ride part and onto the grass. I was sprinting as fast as possible (difficult in sand!), looked round and they were legging it after me. Once onto the grass I managed to speed up a fair bit and dropped them quite quickly but it was a very near miss which shook me up quite a bit as I was often riding round there on my own.

Saw a guy get punched off his bike in Brockwell Park (Brixton) on a sunny Saturday, in front of loads of people.

The robber made his escape really quickly, think the poor victim was concussed or in shock. He wasn't making much sense.

It was only a cheap old hardtail, probably sold it for £50 or less.
