Mudhugger Rear - Orange 5 - Anyone got any photos ?
Looking at a mudhugger, just wondering if anyone has got one and general opinions, plus if anyone has one fitted to a five, any chance of a photo? (photos on line are a bit limited)
Cheers
Biketreks have the Orange specific ones in stock. They look really good! I rode with Andy last week and ended up buying one having seen how much neater it was than my Race Guard. ๐
Not using one on an Orange , but happy to report the rear one is the most effective mud guard I've ever used .
Done a couple of all day rides in mud , my back & arse , totally clean , just the bottom of my baggys getting a bit of crap on them.
The front one is more effective at stopping stuff coming back into your face at speed , rather than keeping your shins & lower body clean.
I bought and fitted a five specific hugger to my 2010 last of the straight headtube fives.
Mounted it as close to the tyre as I dare 10-12mm clearance.
Then on depressurising the shock found it fouledthe cable stop end do-berry that is mounted on the back of the seat tube for the front mech cable.
If I drilled a large enough hole in the guard at the point of contact it would have solved this as my do-berry is redundant due to 1x10 but chose instead to remove the guard.
As I said before on another thread about this, I bought a 5 specific one & fitted it to my 16" 2011 frame. On (not even full) compression the seat tube pushed the guard onto the tyre, a 2.1 Advantage. I decided to adapt the guard by cutting an 'upside down U shape' out of it where it was fouling. This was partially effective but I wasn't at all happy having to do my own modification on something that should've worked out of the box, so I mailed Mudhugger with photo's of the mod & to their (or should I say my) credit they refunded my money so happy days.
But you you what the stupid thing is? I haven't used it since!

Not the neatest of jobs either! ๐ณ
Thanks all, welcome the feedback and experience you have had - interesting you have to mod yours esselgruntfuttock, im also running the original Advantage at the moment.
Will continue having a read about them for the moment as to be honest I dont want to have to start modd'ing it to prevent it from catching.
Cheers
My 5-specific one fits fine, on a 2011 16" with Trail Kings fitted so no idea why esselgruntfuttock has had to modify his!
Works really well (have the standard one on another bike too), dropper post is clean after most rides and the look suits the 5 well compared to fitting it to some swoopy hydroformed frames.

Neither did Mudhugger as I mailed them in the 1st instance to make sure they'd sent me a 5 specific one (what's the diff between a 5 model & one for a Spesh?)
The diff is the length of the cable ties From what I've read.
I had one on my 2012 5 frame. No problems with it fouling under full compression even with big Hans dampfs on. Done it's job well too.
