[#4558966]

I've just bought some SKS chromoplastic ones. Does anyone want to come and fit them for me?

My frame and forks are "mudguard ready", but after a quick go, this looks like it might be the trickiest bike related chore Ive ever attempted.

I dont even think the instructions that came with them know what they're on about.

Shall I bin them before it gets too involved?

It took me two hours of faffing about to fit a set to my Paddy Wagon (including hacksawing the front mount) - best of luck!

Christ, I hadnt expected it to be this involving. I was half tempted to have a go before I went out on my bike after work. Glad I didnt.

Looks like I need to hacksaw at least the front mount since it catches on the headset cup, and also the struts.

Might not bother, they look bent anyway.

Yep - exactly the problem I had! Had to hacksaw the front mount and the front struts.
I definitely won't be taking them off again in the summer...

Been thinking about some of these for my prince albert commuter (no eyelets or muguard mounts ) , is it doable with p clips and lots of grief ?

I Normaly bend the front mount back on itself a bit to clear the head tube as this does not leave a sharp edge
The stays will almost always need the ends trimming off ( bolt cutters )
Just make sure you file any sharp bits smooth

At least once you've done that first installation, future take offs and refits are a doddle (assuming same bike).

They need to provide over-long struts to accommodate varying mounting hole locations. Not unusual to need to chop these.

The sks instructions though are dire, with no real suggestion of how you might go about using some of the parts IME.
