There are some cracking bridleways across Hexamshire common towards Allendales and SE towards Blanchlands which are fairly obvious on the OS map. Take your sarnies though you wn't see many people out in the middle of the Common.

Quite a bit of riding around Halty in all directions. There is the above closer to Hexham, but there is more stuff local to you as well – on the moors and some stuff north of the town too. Do a search on here and you should find some threads, but basically get the local OS and follow your instincts. IIRC John from the bike shop used to do a lot of rides out that way back in the day so is worth talking to, and you've also got the stuff round Talkin and then up to Kielder if that's your thing. Some of the better ROW are best kept for firm ground conditions, and please, if you' find you like the great singletrack in the area, actually keeping to the track helps keep singletrack single (i.e. not bypassing any sections you don't fancy or riding alongside them as an increasing number of people seem to do).

Rather than reposting loads of stuff that you will probably have found or that people will repeat anyway, it might be worth telling you about this event on Thursday night. There should be local knowledge there that you can draw on and if you are looking for people to ride with, that too.

Yeah, I saw that posted the other week. Hard for me to get to though as I'm not local, I'm from Sunderland. £12 return on the train to Haltwhistle means it's nice for a day out.

The lot I ride out with are heading over to hexham this Sunday.

Normally a pretty good day out with them, though I havent ridden there before.

Ah I see, well if it's train based you could equally get off anywhere to explore. If that's Haltwhistle, then I'd go south towards Geltsdale via backroads, Tindale and Talkin... or explore around Plenmeller and the S.Tyne. There's also long routes up into Wark Forest across the wall, but I've never found worked out the best route for this. For longer days then there are pretty obvious routes to combine these options or to continue past Alston to the higher tops including Cross Fell and beyond. There are a couple of clubs based closer to S'land (Beamish? For example) that ride this way quite often too if you wanted to ride with others or get a lift.
