Other half swears by his Fivetens, but they only seem to do the non mid height ones down to a size 5, and I'm a 3 or a 4. For most other mtb kit I look to the youth range, but there don't appear to be any mtb shoes? I'm considering some airwalk trainers - any good, or anyone got any other ideas for a midget with mini feet?

Depends if you want cleats or not. If not, buy standard vans and get them resoled with C5 rubber. If you want cleats, shimano or/and sidi are on the small side of sizing.

The Karvers are mid (ankle) height, which I didn't really want. Might try the resole idea - hadn't known about that, so thanks!!

I used etnies for years, but have gone to spd's now. Any skate shoes do with decent pedals and technique.

NB, i'm not trying be smart or owt, just saying.

A bit of a cheeky plug this, but if you are having trouble finding small size mtb shoes I have a pair of virtually new SixSixOne skate style spd shoes in size 36 (UK3.5 approx) in the classifieds at the moment.

They aren't really ankle height. The inside covers the ankle to protect it, but the outside is cut low below the ankle. To me they feel like skate shoe cut when you're riding.

And I don't really get the point about buying Vans and getting them resoled as you end up about the same price as 5:10's but with a lot of hassle and probably shorter life
