Staying in tideswell for a few days in august
Are there any good routes from the town?
If not can you recommend the nearest routes to drive to?

Short drive to bradwell or hope to access the best routes.

You can park by the footy pitch in bradwell, then take the bridleway behind the cement works towards hope and castleton. Loads of options from there.

From Tideswell loads of gravel tracks all around there as said above best MTB is Hope/Castleton and Ladybower.

Is the Hope stuff proper winch and plummet with massive rocks? Or some nice natural trails ?

Route 11 of the Vertebrate White Peak guide is a short spin down the road from Tideswell. It’s by no measure the best riding in the Peak, but from memory has some good sections plus, if you like that sort of thing, a “fun” climb out of Monsal Dale.
