Thinking of movin to leeds in the coming future and was wondering where the best trails are. I live in Huddersfield at the minute so know a few of teh trails round this way but once it gets past halifax direction its all new territory.
I'm into XC mostly but a little bit of DH is always nice for a fright!
Suggestion please.
Everywhere for XC, even a little bit of DH. No "big" trails exactly bit lots of nice evening blasts..
Middleton woods: several valleys in a woody area, lots of wide open trails, lots of cheeky singletrack, some DH light type trails, some jumps/berms. some fun routes but lots of it is ride to "that good bit" Ride it, ride back up the main track, do it again rather than a proper loop.
Post Hill (bottom of Pudsey/Farnley) Set on a steep hill, has some fairly plane DH bits, some wide open trails and some cheeky woodland singletrack, can be linked with other trails to make something more interesting. Also some trialsy bits at the top where its rocky.
Calverly, again, set on a big bank, several fun, but short DH runs, some open trails, cheeky woodland singletrack (I detect a theme here..) some technical bits with steps/drops etc.
Adel, probably the best woodland singletrack in Leeds, some not very steep DH, some big jumps (unless they've been flattened again) a nice afternoon. Can be turned into a loop, but most people ride it as an out and back from meanwood park (taking in the quarry and the park its self) This route can be picked up from the city centre by following meanwood ridge and can lead you right out to Esholt and beyond if you so wish!
Becketts park, more of a cut through nice bit than a trail, but if you're riding from headingley to kirkstall its worth going this way for a big bomb hole and some nice woodland trails/jumps.
Tong Village, Some nice woods around here and a out and back trail (which can incorporate post hill) taking you from Leeds into Bradford.
There is a few groups who ride around this area (Nrth Leeds MTB IIRC are one) But if you fancy a tour with a lardy singlespeeder as a guide, let me know!
Out the otherside you've got Otley Chevin, Ilkley moor and off into Norh Yorks. Also Stainburn is only really 30 min drive from north Leeds
Leeds is MTB mecca man. The above post is very good. Ill add
Eccup, Sicklinghall & Wike to that. Greatb XC Bridleways.
