I have seen hols including accom, food etc for about £300 for a week in morzine, how much would guiding cost now that only the french are allowed to do it or is there anywhere else in europe that I should consider? Would a GPS be OK instead of a guide?
I'm no DHer or freerider looking mainly for exciting singletrack to adrenalise me and improve my skills so maybe some training as well?
Just half decent weather and great views, am I asking too much on that kind of budget?
Slovenia, Andorra, Spain, Switzerland in that budget and any good?
I went to Switzerland last year with the guy thats set up http://trail-hunters.com/ & I can really recommend it, ace riding & stunning scenery.
I fully recommend Switchbacks in Spain, Bike Verbier in (err...) Verbier, and TrailAddiction in Les Arcs. Quality guiding, quality accommodation, quality food, and best of all, fantastic riding.
Further afield, I'm also a fan of Bearback Biking in Whistler.
As for local guiding, I've no idea. For the PDS area (Morzine etc) the best bet would be to spend an evening with the correct map, some beers, and someone who knows the area. Don't forget a highlighter pen.
There are plenty of smaller french ski stations getting into the biking thing. There's a whole world of biking out there just waiting...
Ridethealps are good, do all sorts of things, but maybe a tad expensive.
Save up for the Chamonix - Zermatt trip - awesome.
