Hey all,
First post here, really enjoy the forum!.
I am looking for a new MTB helmet and not sure which to go for.

I like the look of the POC Tectal Race Spin however they are expensive - Anyone have one?
Are they worth the extra £100 or so compared to others.

Looking for a trail style helmet with the MIPS or similar inside, currently have an IXS Trail, but its getting old and time to be replaced.

Any other recommendations would be great.
Cheers!

People will be very keen to recommend, but it's a very personal preference. If it properly certified, it will do the job that's required of it, but I'd definitely suggest trying them on - both the ones you've suggested are good helmets but everyone's head is a different shape, so I think it's important to find one that's comfortable for you, and won't bug the hell out of you when you've been wearing it for an hour...

Edit - welcome to the world of posting - before long, you won't be doing much else!

Yep, what he said.

That said, I took a punt on one of these because it seemed like a great deal, and luckily it fits me really well.

I say no.
My kid recently crashed badly on his £40 helmet (MIPSless) and suffered no injuries. Replaced, for the same price with a MIPS version, which looks the same and he says, fits the same.
People spend £100s getting the brand, look, colour they like. Do that. Or don't. It's a lid to save your nut in a crash. I've crashed on loads (pre-MIPS) and they've all done what they're supposed to do.

Thanks for the tips!
Yeah i agree with trying them on and regarding the extra spend.
I just wanted to get a general opinion and what others used tbh. Its a shame alot of bike shops dont have lots to try on. I'll get some ordered online and test out!
Thanks again

I've got one of the 15 quid On One Enduro lids.

It's a better fit than my Fox Flux, if a bit sweatier, and at the price you can afford not to be fussy if you bang it.

Hey Howard,

Helmets are a very specific thing to the shape of your head, I've personally got a 59cm circumference nogging which is long(as opposed to round)which depending on brands 59cm can vary in size from a medium to large/xlarge...I've found if I'm force to go into the large size it makes my already big head look enormous. Anyway I've currently got a Sweet Protection Bushwacker II, stupid expensive but I like the fit & looks, plus they offer a crash replacement..which I've just had to make use of after landing on my head and denting it, 40% off a new one.
