A group of us are thinking of doing this one in a couple of weeks :

anyone done it, any advice, thoughts ? We will be a mixture of abilities but all pretty competent riders and planning on taking hardtail rather than FS.

will be on the island from 1040 till 1640, so looks like more than enough time to ride and eat.

cheers

Speak for yourself! If I'm going it will be on my Blur!

I've actually tried a couple of routes on the island already. There are some good trails at the foot of Goat Fell near Brodick Castle, there is more good natural stuff in the Cauchland Hills just south of Brodick and I think that the guys at Arran Adventure have marked out some trails in Glen Cloy, It might be worth speaking to them

rich - I see disaster ahead ๐Ÿ˜› dissent in the ranks and we haven't got there yet, our group fragments and we drop you on the first climb out of Brodick ๐Ÿ˜† you scoot off on some other singletrack , miss the ferry etc etc ๐Ÿ˜€

I've got Goat Fell pencilled in as one to do in the next few weeks. Definitely not one to take the club on though! ๐Ÿ˜€

I've ridden up Glen Rosa. Not bad as a wee out and back.

Haha! ๐Ÿ˜† The route looks cool, might want to detour on the first bit to take in the nice bits of trail on the Cauchland hills (we are going passed them anyway).

From what I remember from the last time I was on arran I pretty much did the top half of the ride on the map. so this longer one looks good

As in climb to the top and descend or a route around GF?

I was just there actually, spent a few days riding there on my singlespeed, so you'll be fine on whatever bike.

The routes on the arran bike club website are ace. The Clauchland hills are fantastic, the 35km classic route was fun. It's not a trail centre, so an OS map is a good idea, though I had no problem making my way around. There are great views and I swam in Lamlash Bay halfway round one of the rides. I love Arran, it is such an awesome place, have a great time!

Bob

Climb up then descend. One of my riding mates has scoped it out and reckons it will make for a tech but fun day out.

Did Goat fell on a fully rigid Saracen trekker back in 1987, carry to the top then a somewhat tumblesome ride/carry on the way down, good laugh though, would be much better on a full sus for sure.

Keep your eyes peeled for the yellow arrows in the woods! I imagine they are even more fadded now too. Other than the odd arrow in one section its completely unmarked. I'd recommend a good map too.

Up and down. There is no ride able route round. Its been ridden plenty of times in the past. I'm hoping to ride make a route up to the shoulder and down to corrie. Should be ridable bar 200mish of climbing.

I did most of that route last October, as has been said, any bike will be fine. The weather had been, and was, really wet when i did it, meaning huge sections of it were really water logged and boggy, ruined the ride a bit, in drier conditions it would be a really good route. The northern half of the ride has much better surfacing so i enjoyed this half the most.

I've always had my eye on it as a ride.

Aye there will be scrambling involved but the scenery is stunning. reminds of some stuff in Verbier round Pierre Avoir. ๐Ÿ˜€

I think the yellow arrows in the woods have been redone, as I found them (mostly) quite visible. A few more certainly wouldn't go amiss in that section though, as I rode for a 100m down what I thought was the 'singletrack', but turned out in fact to be a chance line without any sticks on, and led to a bog...
