Mrs Toast and the evidently cursed Intrigues

Ahoy all!

So, some of you might remember my Liv Intrigue E+1 saga with Rutland. I ended up getting a refund for the faulty bike, and ended up buying... another Intrigue E+1, but this time from my local Giant dealer.

Well, this one had been going much better, been having great fun... right until last week, when an utter scrote nicked it whilst it was next to me (I was loading the car after a ride, which I'd taken to clear my head after a friend's funeral - overall, not the best day).

I'm currently going through insurance, and my case has been handed over by Aviva to the Davies Group. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm a bit worried I'm going to be offered something entirely inappropriate.

AIUI you can always refuse their offer of a replacement. They do it just to save themselves a bit of hassle, but you can push back.

Sometimes there are rules about if the bike is in 'public' and unlocked. Just make sure you don't fall foul of that. ISTR some daft rule from my insurer where because I was 'assaulted' I wasn't to blame. Assaulted can mean as little as a push out of the way.

+1 on you can always say no.

Not Davies Group, but my experience of being passed to similar was very positive. They took full build details of a Niner EMD I had built - and offered me new for old value. This was as credit with an online retailer. I could then choose what I wanted - and was told if they don't have what I wanted, they would find it.

Davies Group were excellent for me. I broke my ti winterbike (not sure how really), Kinesis design fault I say, but it was out of warranty. I was insured and they gave me the cash to buy a new frame. I was happy and they were easy to deal with.

Yep, great service when I wrote off my Condor frame in a crash. Initial offer was the replacement cost less the excess, I pointed out it had a custom paint job and sent an LBS quote to swap the parts over from the damaged frame and they paid for all of it, including the fee from the LBS (less the excess)

Wow, sounds surprisingly positive! Still waiting to hear back from insurance, whilst I'm trawling sale sites for my bike. To add insult to injury, my trusty Overvolt has started making terrible noises, so I'm sending that off for an engine overhaul, and my Ribble is running a few months late. Just hoping it gets sorted soon!

I'm pushing back - they've just got back to me and they've offered me a replacement that's two models below my stolen bike, and £1100 less. Seems a bit stingy given that the bike was less than six months old. 🙁

Victory, it was just because they'd got the wrong model. They apologised and I can get a direct replacement!

THIRD TIME LUCKY!
