Notice that Merlin are selling these dirt cheap and i'm wondering what they are like, primarily as a rear tyre but maybe front as well.
Had a set of the original Mk1 MK's in the 2.4" flavour and i wasn't impressed TBH.
I like them. Have the cheapo ones and the folding ones but not the black chilli.
Bit too slow for racing but for all round riding I can't fault them.
Ribble might be cheaper though. Picture is the mark 1, the mark 2 look more like nobby nics.
Bad when tilted round corners! Other wise fantastic all rounder, would recommend black chili however I have scorched through mine rather rapidly.
I got some 2.4 for my hard tail for winter. They are a million miles from the dreadful original. Just taken them off in favour of the semi slicks.
Plump, but not so plump as 2.4 rubber queens
Knobs are well spaced so clear and dig excellently, but this makes them rumbly on hard pack
Stiff edge knobs you can feel in soft corners
The cheap ones have a weaker carcass and not much sheer traction. It was ok on the back with a DH tube
The black chilli was like a different tyre: lots of sheer grip but no more draggy. Very strong sidewalls too.

Have got a 2.4,, the cheap folding version and not impressed with it at all.
Just about to remove it as it wont sit straight on the rim and wobbles like the wheel is buckled!

I have the Black Chilli's I find them brilliant. Prefer them to High Rollers I had.
