[Closed] Mountain biking without using thumbs

I'm running 1x10 on my winter hardtail and am using a '90s Deore DX thumbshifter in friction mode.

It works fine and I often use my palm instead of my thumb when my hands are cold.

DX thumbies must be fairly cheap and worth a shot? They were originally 7 speed but have a "hidden click" to allow use with 8sp cassette's. This lever travel also seems to be sufficient to use with 9 & 10 speed.

I have skiers thumb (or whatever it's called when you completely f*** the ligaments in your thumb so I can barely push a trigger shifter).

Singlespeed was/is the solution.

Thanks for the advice everyone - it looks like my friend is going to try a set of dual-control levers. Fortunately, her bike is a somewhat antiquated 3x9, so should be a simple swapout. I'll post back here for posterity when I know more.
