So, 5 of us have booked to go to madeira for a long weekend in September, have booked guiding and uplift with freeride madeira. We're staying in Funchal.

Has anyone got any info on decent places to eat/drink etc whilst we're there, or any other tips?

Should we be taking the full face helmets, or open face?

Cheers

Good riding in Madeira- lots of great restaurants but avoid Granny’s.

Chris’s near Freeride Madeira was excellent.

Full or open - I’d take one with a removable chin. Most of the riding is down though so you’d be fine most of the time with full. Guides are generally on open face though.

Up up to you really.

Depends what your comfortable with and wear normally lid wise. There's everything from fluffy singletrack, through to stuff like the deathgrip and gamble lines. I wore an open Face if that helps.

To many good restaurants to mention really, but make sure you have steak on a stone somewhere.

Have always worn open face when on these sorts of trips in the past, although felt a little 'under helmeted' when in Finale last year, mainly because everyone else was in full facers.

I have just got back from a 6 day riding trip with freeride maderia. We covered a fair amount of trails during the week, big mix of terrain, mainly steep rocky stuff, very technical in places.

All 4 of the guides were riding full face and 90% of our group were too

I tool my giro switchblade and used it in full face all the time, theirs very little climbing involved as they can uplift you to pretty much the start of every trail. Just some of the EWS stages require a 20/30 mins pedal, mainly flat fire roads though
