Spent some time in Arolla this summer and I spoke to people and mentioned on my post here about it that there was some killer riding there (albeit non-lift assisted).
The place is trying to attract more tourist traffic and although it's popular with walkers, I think it's got a lot of potential as a mountain bike destination. Maybe not enough to sustain a business or chalet, but if you're looking for somewhere offbeat in the Alps to explore on your bike I'd be interested to see what you find there.
I post this because I saw a few people had already been scratching around the area on Pinkbike:
I heard it's possible to ride right from the top of the valley above Arolla all the way to Sion, mostly on singletrack!
Spent a few days in the mountains behind Arolla last summer. Lovely place. But are the Swiss not a bit touchy about biking on "unofficial" trails?
