Can anyone recommend me a decent mountain biking skills coach? I’m Leeds based but willing to travel.
There is/was a chap on here known as jedi who was very well regarded. He's a lot further south than you and I think he trades as ukbikeskills
Jedi of course, in Hertfordshire.(UK Bike Skills)
Also based in Leeds, ukbikeskills is well worth the trip
A few of us back in the BikeMagic days did a course with Tony/Jedi.
One point I remember is he worked out which learning style worked for each of us, visual, verbal etc.
Get a group of friends together and see what he can do for you, money well spent I thought.
More locally - A-Line or Rideabout UK, both of whom are Sheffield based - often coach at Grenoside woods.
Suspect you'll get a lot of more local recommendations, but this link - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/coachingdirectory?filter%5Bcoach%5D%5Btype%5D=All&filter%5Bcoach%5D%5Bdistance%5D=40&filter%5Bcoach%5D%5Bpostcode%5D=Leeds&filter%5Bcoach%5D%5Bresult_type%5D=list - should show British Cycling accredited coaches in a 25 mile area of Leeds.
Level 2 MTB would be the qualification to be interested in.
I've yet to work out how to get in touch with coaches so this may just give an idea of volume of coaches that may be able to assist.
Ben ( https://www.weride.co.uk/ or https://alinecoaching.co.uk/ ) is excellent!
He can coach Grenoside/ Wharncliffe but also Farmer John or Tweed valley. Offers 1:1 half or full day, group coaching and ongoing development.
IMO much more useful to get coached locally so you can easily go back to practice and hone the skills you learned!
Another vote for Tony/Jedi/UK bike skills.
Been a few times and I travel down from South Yorkshire.
He's called Jedi for a reason
Thanks for the kind words guys xx
Tried a few different ones over the years. Jedi/Tony was definitely the one I got the most out of. By the afternoon we were doing things that I would have never imagined I was capable of in the morning.
I remember (at least some of) his teachings on every ride.
We had a private session for 4 of us of pretty similar ability which may have helped. Have you got some similar friends you can go with?
Thanks for recommendations. Will have a look at websites and get something organised for next pay day!
I’ve not had coaching from Jedi but seen loads of people recommending him. I’ve had coaching from Katy Curd and Sam who works with her. Both decent but miles and miles away from you in Leeds.
I was looking to get some coaching at Dyfi Bike Park but failed to organise it (as a few of the coaches race DH so in season their coaching slots can be limited) - I thought that would be a great place to learn if you’re kind of ‘intermediate’ already. 3 hours from you.
